It was originally the site of a military barracks. In the late 1800s it was developed as parkland and was officially named Royal Park in 1912. It was spacious and peaceful.

We took a 4 hour Tamar River Cruise and it was an absolute highlight of our trip. Wonderful catering during the whole trip with fabulous staff who took care of everyone from beginning to end. Morning tea, lunch, a fully stocked bar and wine and beer tastings. The running commentary during the trip was amazing. So informative and entertaining and never once felt like it had been delivered a thousand times before which it must have been. Thank you to the crew for a wonderful experience.

The Tamar Island Wetlands is an unique urban wetlands reserve just 10 minutes' drive from the heart of Launceston. An interpretation centre offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the value of the wetlands environment and the wildlife that live there.
I stopped here thinking i could spend 30mins wandering around the wetlands and stayed over 2 hours. It such a beautiful little spot to stop. I did the walk out to Tamar island, an easy flat boardwalk all the way with a few bridges along the way for viewing the black swans, ducks, water hens and other birds. There are plenty of spots to stop along the way for a seat and a gorgeous picnic bbq area when you get out to Tamar Island. A lot of work has and continues to go into the wetlands - i would definately reccommend stopping if you have some spare time on the western side of the Tamar

A play ground where kids can have hours of fun. With a pirate play ground on the top floor; a baby room; an interactive hospital and delhi to play in small children aged from 1 - 7 will have a lot of fun. Downstairs we have 2 levels of play equipment for older children; zippi bikes; table tennis; an indoor, outdoor slide. A cafe where parents and children can enjoy some pretty delicious house baked food. We cater for all dietaries.
Fantastic place to take energetic kids.... their accompanying adults are well catered for in the adjoining cafe, which also has a kids menu.
