You can eat very well—and very cheaply—in Taipei. The restaurants may not look posh, but the quality of the food is superlative. And there’s a huge variety of restaurants—in addition to local Taiwanese specialties, you’ll find regional cuisines from all over China, as well as great Indian, Japanese and even Italian options. Just make sure to leave some room for snacks—street-vendor food here is addictive.

Jao Ho Street has become a secondary road and the business has also declined. Therefore, the government set up a night market in 1987. It is the second tourist night market in Taipei.
Start at the main gate opposite exit 5 from Songshan MRT station and trawl your way past stall upon stall selling delicious and interesting street food. A big part of the great experience is watching the hawkers in action – they are like performance artists, in a way, unfolding their skill before a live audience! Our picks: the pepper pork buns are well worth the wait, although arriving before 6:30pm will save you many minutes in the queue that was snaking by 8:30pm; grilled squid; any of the tea stalls; pan-fried mini-buns; handmade nougat. The crowd was thronging but never overwhelming – it was always possible to find a place to stand and eat and not be in the way of passersby, then rejoin the moving crowd once we were ready.

This famous market has just relocated to Hangzhou Road. Clean and air conditioned, it still retains the great array of stalls selling dried goods, meats, along with fresh seafood, meats and vegetables There is a food court on level 2 with a famous beef noodle stall with queues that never end

Hi there! This is a fabulous place for sewing enthusiasts and I would like to write a review for it. Hope to hear from you soon.
My first trip to Taipei( joining a cruise later) and this was my number one place to visit. Went the first day and then returned another day for more. Bought some silk at $18m as opposed to $50 in Australia. Patchwork fabric was beautiful, imported from USA and just a little cheaper than home. Some months later, at home, envious comments about my dress made with Taipei fabric. Great selection of fabric and REALLY nice stall holders. I lost my husband ( I mean LOST!) and they did a search for him. How they understood what I meant I don't know because I could not speak Taiwanese or they English. They gestured that the man who had been sitting on the table had gone outside and a mate had seen him. The mate went looking outside for him! Wonderful.Take your purse credit card and an empty case.

In Taipei, people think of Ximending, Shinlin, Raohe, Ningxia etc., when we mention night markets. Before we visited Gongguan night market, little did we know that this night market was such a gem! It has a good mix of local eats (think pushcarts), restaurants, skincare shops, clothes shops, shoes shops, bubble tea shops... literally everything you can and want to find in a night market! Since it is just outside a University, the prices were competitive and you will find yourself wandering along the shopping district for hours. Definitely one of the most underrated night markets in Taipei!
