Just outside of Budapest, this town is full of churches, galleries, museums and cafes. Szentendre was settled by Serbians fleeing from the Turkish occupation in the 17th century. Because of the Serbian influence the town has the Mediterranean feel.

An extensive collection of Margit Kovacs' ceramic works featuring a unique synthesis of folk and Byzantine motifs.
This town was so interesting---MANY shops, cafes, etc. It was a surprise to find the Ceramic Museum in this little town---quite impressive, well done and very classy. I was intrigued with it. We had already visited Budapest and wanted to find a new location of interest---this was perfect!

The 50-year-old Skanzen is the biggest open air museum of Hungary and is situated at the foot of the Pilis Mountains, on the territory of a nature reserve. On the 60 hectares 312 buildings can be visited, all organised into regional units. The unique flora and fauna of the Museum makes its natural surroundings special too. The permanent exhibitions of the Skanzen take the visitors back to the rural countryside of 100-200 years ago, where walking among old buildings settled in a traditional settlement pattern, visitors have the unique experience of folk architecture, interior furnishings and way of life. Weekdays and holidays come to life in yards, houses, barns, workshops and churches: the housekeeper is busy in the kitchen, the miller pours grain to the mill-hopper, animals are loud in the farmyard and a bell calls the pupils to the village school.
Quite a big park with Hungarian houses from different parts of Hungary from the past. Many activities for kids, like candle making or other "do-it-yourself" activities, open-air games kids used to play before electronic gadgets appeared. There are several points where you can buy something to eat (soup, sausages) or snacks (cakes with different fillings at the "bakery", cookies). We've got an impression that one half of the park (left one if you look at the map of the park) is animated much more than another – or maybe it is because we visited another part in the second part of the day. In this second part we even did not find a place to buy a snack – only beverages were proposed or remained. The web-site does not provide a clear indication how to get to the park from the Szentendre railway station: the "local bus" schedule is from 2017 (it looks like it is still valid though) and the bus was leaving from 6th stop and not 7th (it is better to ask at the cash desk while buying the tickets for the bus). The visit takes the whole day and the park leaves a very good impression.

Retro Design Center –a time travel into the 70s with 25 cars, among them pink cabriolet Wartburg, rally Moskvitch,Trabant, Zhighuli etc., with motorcycles and bikes from the Eastern block. A hippi girl is waiting the visitors in a home of the era. The museum presents a room with typical toys, another room with household appliences, televisions, tape recorders, radios and walls covered with LPs.

I made the short trip on suburban railway from Budapest to Szentendre to visit this museum - and felt it well worthwhile. The fact that the trip only cost me around 1 euro each way as an add-on my Budapest travel ticket was a bonus. Those that moan about the price should consider what one might pay elsewhere - around 3 euros for an admission with a photo pass seems fine to me, and those in the party who don’t want to take photos get in even cheaper! There is a fine collection of trams through the ages, so even though there is a mix of old and new trams still running on the streets of Budapest, there are plenty of others to see here. There are also a few buses and engines, but the trams are the star of the show! The volunteer staff don't speak a lot of English, but in context there are no issues with paying the entrance fee etc.

This place is breathtaking! It fronts the river/lake and has a lot of small shops and eateries. If you need a break from the typical touristy places like castles, museums and souvenir shops, this town is just 15-20 minutes away from Budapest and can be reached by taxi. For 4 people you are better off taking a taxi rather than getting a tour guide as it is a popular destination and people are friendly to help you get you a taxi or show you directions. Szentendre bursts at the charming cobbled streets with plenty of art galleries and independent craft shops. The town is filled with surprising alleys and you can climb all the way up to see its overall view at your own pace; taking your time by stopping to enjoy ice-cream, coffee or a beautiful painting or work of art. A must see if you are in Budapest especially if you wish to run away from the hustle bustles of a city.

This busy central square, lined with cafes and shops, features the Memorial Cross and the Blagovestenska Church (Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary) dating from 1752.
Little Hungarian village which is extremely attractive with the colorful umbrellas hanging in one of the streets and the beautifully decorated shops with unique things to buy like some gorgeous scarves, very cute pencils of all shapes and sizes, toys, Budapest wine miniatures, crochet table tops. The main square has some colorful lamp shades hanging, ice cream shops, coffee shops. A short excursion to Szentendre is a gud idea from the hustle and bustle of Budapest which has btw, horrible traffic.

This Orthodox Church, dating from 1752, features magnificent icons of Buda and beautiful rococo windows.
Szentendre was largely settle by Serbians withdrawing from the Turkish occupation of their country and built this church in the mid-18th century. It is beautifully decorated inside, with frescoes, paintings, icons and a magnificent iconostasis. There is a token entrance fee. The church is located on the main square of town, within steps of other museums, restaurants and cafes.

Amazing displays. Such wonderful detail! You'd never believe they were made out of marzipan! A wide variety of people, items and characters on display - from Mickey Mouse to Michael Jackson! Very reasonable entry fee. Well worth a visit.
