The white buildings contrast with the bright flower gardens tended by the nuns. If you are fortunate enough to visit during a service you will experience the melodic singing of the nuns. Women need to cover their heads before entering the church.

I got to the Church of Sts Boris and Gleb by tourist shuttle bus. It runs on a schedule from downtown Suzdal during the tourist season. You can check it out on the tourism web-site of Suzdal before your visit. The church itself is really stunning. It was before the Mongol invasion. I walked slowly reading all the captions. I had plenty of time. By the next bus arrival I was ready to continue my sightseeing trip.

It is one of the best open-air museums of wooden architechture in Russia. If we are talking about the close proximity to Moscow, probably it is the museum you should visit. As for the museum, you can visit different churches - winter and summer one, as well as different housing types - for rich and poor peasants. I was there with a large group that had a guided tour so my visit was quite long and it was worth it.

The colours of this Church help it to stand out on the landscape of the while buildings. We visited during winter, so there was a lot of snow on the ground, which added to the beauty of this Church. Only small, but certainly impressive. The murals inside are certainly beautiful. Well worth a visit. Take your time to wander around and explore at your leisure.

We climbed this bell tower in a snow storm in January 2019 and it just added to the magic and excitement of visiting this historic town. The climb was precarious with the wind blowing and ice on the steps but once at the top the view of the snow on the sites below was magic. The bells were also worth seeing and the memory of this day will remain with me for a long time.

This large Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin is dedicated to the Mother of Jesus, this is apparent from outside where such churches have blue domes. This church has a famous door, a 13th century double metal door called the golden door because of its special 'gilding' and the intricacies of its illustrations. The inside is very impressive despite it not being large in surface area; the Iconostasis is very impressive in gold and its painted panels.
