If you travel to the Sumava region then you must certainly stop here. The largest Castle ruin in Czechia is most impressive. First off, Rabi is a nice little Village. The Castle sits right in town and overlooks the valley leading up to the Sumava foothills. It's possible to visit nearly all of the castle including the tower which offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area. This is also a very historic castle. I love Castles and have been to over 25 in Czechia and I have to say this is my favorite ruin. Near the castle are several restaurants and a couple souvenir shops. Guided Tours are around 90kc-200kc for adults. $4 to $8 dollars US currency. Cheaper for kids. If you are going to visit just one or two Castles then this should be one of them.

We visited this place twice over the course of 2 days. Once with the kids by car with a 20 minute walk from the parking lot, and once by ourselves from Kasperske hory (town) which was about a 90 minute walk (one way). We also visited the other two castle in the triangle of Castles the same long weekend (Rabi and Kasperk). The view to the castle is much better and more rewarding from the walk as you do get to see the full effect of the scope of the castle. The people were not too friendly inside truth be told, but the tour was knowledgeable and informative, and there is plenty of space to wander around and have snacks afterwards.

This is one of the three great Castles in this region. You shouldn't miss it, the others are: Rabi and Kasperk. All of them are very spectacular.

The Renaissance Castle was built 1590 by the Gentlemen of Račíny Račína, probably on the site of a a medieval castle. Jan Ferdinand Desfours had the Castle converted 1731, before he moved from the old Renaissance Castle, he had a new baroque castle built. The castle was known as "the tower", which was the pride of the Castle and already visible from afar. The Tower collapsed down on 26 July 1976, a good 245 years after the construction of the new castle. The tower had three floors, a mansard roof and was built on older foundations of the tower. About two-thirds of the tower consisted of wooden staircase, later only used as Bell-Tower. A drawing of this tower is kept in the regional archives. At present it serves as a restaurant.

The Early-Baroque Chapel of the Guardian Angel with the large cloister (added in 1735) was built between 1682 - 1683 on the hill called Stráž (Guard) above the town. One can drive up to the mountain by car. But after making inquirements I was told that the church is only opened when mass is going on. As my travelcompanion was tired he did not fancy to stroll arround just to see the exterior. Hope to visit again in 2011.

The Capuchins' monastery with the Church of St. Felix of Nola founded in 1654 stands on the outskirts of Sušice. It was closed when we visited. One can make some pix through the glass. The exterior is nice. Pay attention to the Madonna at the exterior, made in lots of tiny mosaics.
