Nestled in the heart of suburbia is a forgotten wildlife haven. Officially recorded as the Raeburn Open Space, this 5 hectare site is made up of a mosaic of habitat types including native deciduous woodland, a small stream known as the Tolworth Brook & some scrub land. A new 3 year project started in 2017 to enhance this wildlife haven & community space with a new bridge & dipping pond.

This ticks all the normal 'local park' boxes, including a large play area (with swings, climbing frames, etc) for kids and a really decent cafe. I've enjoyed sitting on the grass on a warm summers day to bask in the sunshine, or eating a delicious cheese and ham croissant and a coffee from the cafe, or a quick lunch on a bench in the winter (please use the bins for any rubbish!).

Fishponds Park, Surbiton is 19 acres fronted by the Ewell Road but with additional entrances from Hollyfield Rd, King Charles Rd & Mayberry Place. A brickworks in 1880 with Manor House, the land was purchased by the council & became a municipal park. There are 3 ponds linked by a pump & stream system, a grass meadow, rose beds, a 'dell' area, mature specimen trees & large grass amenity areas.
Fishponds Park continues to be an amazing local green space to be able to visit and relax in. Every time I visit, whether alone or with friends or family, I realise how lucky we are to have this council owned space with a wonderful community group committed to improving it. The work volunteers have done is brilliant and my family is excited to see how it will improve. Keep up the great work!

A regular at Claremont Gardens, I love seeing all the changes that go on through the seasons. The colours of the trees and landscape are beautiful in different ways through the year. It's definitely worth a visit for a little exploration and calm wander around the grounds. I've enjoyed hiring a boat to head out on the pond too, with the quizzical looks of interest from the ducks and birds floating around. The obligatory visit to a National Trust cafe for a scone also helps!
