Since the burning of the Pagaruyung Palace, this museum has become one of the best "rumah gadang" to visit. I think, this museum has become a must-visit tourist object when we go to West Sumatra.

A grand mansion that all tourists should come and visit to understand one man's excellent efforts to contribute to the growth of the city of Medan through local and Chinese migrant labour. Tjong A Fie was an associate of Cheong Fatt Tze (Blue Mansion in Penang, Malaysia), and both mansions certainly have their similarities. When we arrived, an English speaking guide took us around. He was from the local university and this was his gig to practise speaking English. He refused to accept money, but we pressed it into his hand and he was more than appreciative. The 'tour' was an hour but we spent another hour going through the mansion ourselves.

The Aceh Tsunami Museum is the place for people to remember those who perished in the Tsunami back in 2004. Even if you only vaguely remember how the Tsunami ravaged the people back then, in here you could refresh your memory and witness one of the most horrific experience in modern era again. The free admission makes it the place you must go when you are in Banda Aceh, particularly if you want to know how Banda Aceh has changed since then and pay your tributes to the deceased.
