A jewel of the Baroque era meets contemporary art. 70.000 restored books, ceiling frescoes and sculptures in the magnificent world largest monastery library meet creations of Erwin Wurm, Rudi Molacek and Lois Renner in the huge museum of the Abbey. The new gothic exhibition 'Close to Heaven' is putting on display a major collection of medieval sculptures and painted panels of the collection Mayer. -The artworks of the late Middle Ages continue to exert a powerful fascination on us even today. Beside there is a Natural history museum with exhibits dating to 1866 - 1906 (the 'Museum in the Museum') and a Museum of Fine Arts as well as plays host to special exhibitions and a multimedia Abbey presentation.
Recently during a guided tour we stopped for an hour to see the library at the Abbey at Admont, it was worth every single minute and we would have loved to spend more time there. The building itself is stunning and the selection of books on display (no touching please) out of this world. As other travellers have remarked, the Google of its' day with books on all subjects, not just religion. Beautiful, they have some interesting exhibitions in adjacent rooms too. And for fresh air you can walk around a bit on the grounds of the abbey if time permits. Go see it for yourself if possible

Set in a quiet area well known for one of the most famous Hollywood actors, this church is so very different in design. Very modern and lovely design certainly not typical.

The world's largest preserved historical armoury displays some 32,000 objects from the 15th to 18th century.
We came in winter when access is by guided tour only. Luckily we happened to be there just in time for one. It was fantastic. Photos can't do the armoury justice. There is so much to be said about being there amounts the pieces, the smells of oils used to clean them. Amazing. Our guide was fantastic and very patient as we all tried on select samples of chain mail and wielded some replica swords. A must for anyone visiting Graz.

You really cannot miss the view from the top of the building. You can admire the old clock and the old city center for free! Add a glass of Gluhwein and you have a lovely time.

There were many tourists and restaurants nearby in that beautiful and historical place. Since I was not very hungry when I arrived, I chose a snack bar to had a hot dog. Several of its regular customers were drinking beer at Stand 12. When I was trying to have an order at that booth, the enthusiastic customers helped call the boss/staff. The people in that booth greeted the guests cheerfully and enthusiastically, and they ate, drank, talked and cheered with them. Although I was not drinking beer, I was infected. Then, they began to talk to me and we had quite some laughters. That was a very good lunch, not only because of the delicious hot dog, but also because of the wonderful and memorable "only here only now" experience!

An example Renaissance architecture and site of theatrical performances.
Landhaushof is a beautiful elegant Renaissance building. It is located in the very heart of Graz. Landhaushof has arcades on 3 floors. There are characteristic decorative vaulted windows, three-story arcade yard and magnificent fountain. Made by famous master Domenico dell'Allia. During winter you can see amazing sculptures made of ice, in the yard. The fountain is also a wonderful scene for festivals, concerts and movie projections. It is also the home of the Styrian regional parliament. 48 members of the Styrian provincial government meet in the baroque salon, the picturesque Arkadenhof. The interior is extremely richly decorated and equipped. A real jewel. The atmosphere is wonderful.
