We came to Ston and Mali Ston before heading to Dubrovnik. The walls and the views exceeded expectations. The size and length of the walls made this side trip well worthwhile. The views on this sunny October day were most impressive. Lunch in a local restaurant rounded out the experience.

Located about an hours drive from Dubrovnik are Ston and Mali Ston, famed for salt pans and oysters.
The city walls are well worth a climb with beautiful views from the top!
The climb itself is challenging though there is more than one path you can take. Comfortable/ sturdy footwear recommended, the entrance fee was 50 kuna and you are able to park for 5 kuna/ hour in either location.
Well worth a visit!

One of the oldest family owned winery in region, which is specialized in producing high quality wines from Plavac Mali from organic vineyards on the steep manually farmed terraced land of the Peljesac Peninsula. Also produce awarded extra virgin olive oil and herbal tea.
We just showed up at this vineyard without booking and were welcomed extremely warmed by Ivan.
We were shown around the fermentation tanks and cellar where Ivan explained the wine making process. He detailed that the place had been in his family’s ownership for 500+ years and his warmth and knowledge were infectious.
We then tasted about 4-5 wines and paid a little extra to try and vintage wines. The wines were gorgeous and Ivan talked us through each one.
We tried some olive oil which was really nice and had a peppery aftertaste.
You could buy wines and even have them shipped to the UK for a nominal fee.
Overall excellent value and a really enjoyable visit. Thanks Ivan!

The town of stone is about an hour and 15 min north of Dubrovnik also along the coast. The salt works is basically evaporation ponds along the Adriatic where the water from the sea is allowed to enter and then is evaporated repeatedly to build up levels of salt. Then harvested and processed to remove some of the impurities.

Peljesac Peninsula , a place where sun, sea and stone create a perfect home for Plavac Mali , indigenous Dalmatian variety that brings out the best from the "barren land" and gives us "divine nectar." Marlais family, that drags roots from France, settled on the peninsula in the early 17th century, bringing with them the knowledge that every Frenchman has in its blood - how to make good wine.
This is an old family vineyard, and you walk past the family homes to get to the tasting room. Everyone was welcoming and kind, and the hostess was very accommodating and spoke English very well.
The family is proud of their wines, and carefully explained each (in well spoken English!). Tasting was easy going, no pressure to buy their very affordable (6,5 euro) wine.
There are 5 varieties- 1 rose, 1 white, and 3 red. The reds were a gorgeous color, and had wonderful bouquet. We bought several bottles!
The olive oil is delicious, and the grappa flavored with carob was so unusual, we had to buy some of that, too!
A wonderful side trip in a beautiful place. This winery is well worth a stop!

Little old town with a great market and a series of cafe and restaurants. Historic salt works and really long amazing town walls. The town has narrow stone streets. Handy post office for forex. Good parking.

We were here on a morning in early October. The visitor's centre had a somewhat informative video describing the works of the sea salt extraction and harvesting. We were the only couple here and we wandered around for maybe three quarters of an hour. From the looks of the video there is a lot more going on in the summer and it looks to be a fun stop when it is in operation.

Podczas II wojny światowej kompleks został poważnie uszkodzony a częściowo rozebrano go w XIX i XX wieku.
