The Roaches Peak District

Reviewed By kenhI2641SB - Ipswich, United Kingdom

Visited when staying at the Camping and Caravanning site at Blackshaw Moor near Leek. It was a superb 10 mile round trip hike from the campsite, across country via Lower Blackshaw Farm and Whitty Lane up to Hen Cloud. From there its an excellent north west trek following the Roaches ridge past Doxy Pool to the Trig point before turning back. Superb views of Tittesworth Reservoir. Plenty of places to stop for a picnic with a view. There is limited roadside parking that runs below the Roaches albeit it gets full very quickly. It is worth noting that it is not a bad walk from the reservoir Visitor Centre where there is ample parking, toilets etc.

We MUCH preferred aqua zorbing to harness zorbing (which we did a couple of years back), as found it much less bumpy - harness zorbing hurt our necks and shoulders, but we are in our mid-30's so not as resilient as we used to be! There was not as much water pumped inside the sphere as I had imagined, you sort of lie down in it at the start. But once the ball starts moving there is definitely more than enough water! haha Towels and a change of clothes are definitely required if you’re Aqua Sphering as you do get soaked! The water is icy when you get in, but quickly get used to it and only actually inside the ball for around 5 minutes total. I think the downhill spin only lasts about 1 minute although it feels a LOT longer when you're tumbling around inside! Definitely a warm weather activity though! Husband was glad he followed advice and wore long sleeves as he thought his arms would of gotten scratched on the zorb otherwise, but I'm a lot shorter and was happy in my tshirt. You take off your shoes before getting inside the sphere and walk back up the hill to collect them afterwards. We bought the photo inside the zorb, which was rather disappointing (not flattering), but only £5 so worth a try! Luckily we got some AMAZING footage on the gopro as my husband took a video and it's hilarious! Especially my wipeout at the end! haha The site is pretty basic but you're not there long. There's a portaloo and a small cabin to get changed in, several picnic benches and the reception area, but thats about. We were really lucky this time as arrived early and within 10 minutes were inside our zorbing sphere! Last time, when we went harness zorbing, there was quite a lengthy wait, but I guess numbers are strictly limited due to covid regulations which meant less waiting around for us. There was a steady stream of people going zorbing (harness & aqua on same slope), but staff moved everyone along quickly and safely. A little off the beaten track but we just followed our sat nav and easy enough to find, just allow plenty of time to travel the small country roads and advised to arrive 15 minutes before your booking. All staff very helpful and friendly, especially the lady on the phones who helped us rearrange our activity at short notice when there was a local lockdown. Highly recommend!

Oakedge Shooting Ground

Oakedge Park is 74 acres on the edge of Cannock Chase. It is approached via the A513 Milford Road, (two miles from Shugborough). You drive in through the new safer entrance through the oak gate following the road to the right running parallel with the road, the turn left with the pools on the right hand side. You then enter the car park (for weekend use). The Club House can be seen from the car park. The staff take great pride in keeping the grounds as clean and beautiful as possible. It is certainly a beautiful place to shoot or hold an event. Indeed the ideal setting for a Game Fair (27th and 28th April 2013)

Tatenhill Aviation Limited

Reviewed By Ssam187048 - Derby, United Kingdom

My 11 year old son Sam & I flew with Mike today, a gift for Sam who is keen to learn to fly. Mike was brilliant with him, giving him lots of information about the pre flight checks & instruments etc. (Unfortunately my youngest son decided instantly it wasn’t for him before we even set off & Mike was extremely patient whilst we removed him!) Mike allowed Sam to take the controls & fly for a good amount of the flight which he loved. He is a very calm & knowledgeable instructor and made a great experience even more so. Sam’s dream of joining the RAF has been heightened and we hope he will fly again soon & aim for official lessons. We will certainly be requesting Mike again and can’t recommend him highly enough. A great experience. Thanks Mike!
