What to do and see in St. Petersburg, United States: The Best Places and Tips

November 26, 2017 Natalie Tallman

The sun almost always shines on St. Petersburg, the "Sunshine City" that enjoys an average of 361 days of clear skies per year. Combine that with 244 miles of glimmering coastline along Tampa Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, Boca Ciega Bay and the intra coastal waterways and you have one hot beach destination. Catch the sun, surf and sand at Ft. De Soto Park, or take a hike up the 37-mile Pinellas Trail. Enjoy a Devil Rays game during baseball season or escape to the shady oasis of the Sunken Gardens.

Have been attending this intimate theater setting for years- performances are extremely well done- not a bad seat in the house- this may not have been their best play ever but certainly in the top three. would give my highest recommendation.

This theatre is very small but not cramped, just intimate. We love the talent that is here and the performances never disappoint. They do serve drinks outside just before you enter the theatre and snaks, there are also restrooms that are clean for use. If you are late you will have to wait to enter as they will not let you disturb the scene that is being performed which is a good thing, nothing worse than trying to see the performance to have people parading in front of you making you miss it.

I am loving my stay this week in downtown St. Petersburg. We’ve been to the Dali Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Chihuly Museum, and Florida CraftArt. The parks, statuary, sidewalks, restaurants. Bars and shops are all wonderful. There is so much to do and take in here. I’m looking forward to the rest of the week. Everyone is so friendly.

We saw many alligators. The young ones were the most interesting. We saw a roseate spoonbill and many other wading birds. Boardwalks throughout the entire park make it easy to get from one place to the next. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

A wonderful selection of produce straight from the farm. Live music every week, and lots of tables to hang out and enjoy a great sense of community. (9am - 2pm) The smaller nearby Williams Park Summer Market runs from June - August (9am - 1pm)

One of the best outdoor markets I have been to! There was an impressive number of international food vendors selling snacks, lunch and desserts with fresh juice or kombucha. Beautiful flowers, art, jewelry and entertainment as well. We paid $3 to park in the garage nearby then took a walk around the marina after.

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Reviewed By Cynthia W - Freeland, Michigan

There are two sections to this Preserve. The free area with lots of parking, flush toilets, Picnic pavilions, and playground. The minimal fee area, gets you into the trail system. There are a few injured birds in cages, for your viewing pleasure. I thought of the entry fee as a way to keep the birds fed. Flush toilets are in the entrance building with a small nature display and small gift shop. Take lots water. There are lots of walking trails, some on boardwalks, some in shade and out of shade. You never know what you will see here, but everyone seemed to say the alligators were the draw. We only saw a few different types of birds, but the area sure is a great location for birds, but where were they????. Lots of Osprey, 1 anhinga, 1 baby blue, 1 turtle, frog and a few banana trees. This was not a very successful birding day for us. The acreage is a great place for the animals. A great family outing even with small children. The trails would take a stroller. There are also open Tram rides that you can reserve ahead of time with a guide.

Vinoy park is a large green area facing sea. It contains many parts and activities like grass areas with benches and pavements, small beach with beach volley courts, Aquatix swimming pools and palm arboretum. I'm not sure if beach is suitable for swimming but Palm Arboretum was nice spot to take a break in the shadows of palm trees. There was great collection of different palm species which were nice to watch. Access is free.

In the city side of park we saw tree blossoming yellow flowers and different big birds in close distance. Downtown view behind boat docks is nice and there's a magnificent pink hotel resort along the park. You can take trolley ride at a hotel front.

Saw them tonite w/Bill & Bucky Heard, & hadn't seen them since Hollywood Bowl just a few wks before Bobby died. Concert was crowded, & my fave was when Bill did a tribute to Bobby by singing "Unchained Melody" w/video of them over the yrs. He didn't attempt Bobby's high notes, & it was just SO MOVING.
Then Bucky did Roy's "Crying", also very well done & moving. Bill's daughter did duet w/him, "Time of Our Lives" from "Dirty Dancing", another nice surprise.

Beautiful theatre, & St Pete so pretty at nite, loved driving around in it!
