This was on our must-see list while in St George. Find the sign in the main street, and follow the emu/footprints. The work that has been put into these eggs is unbelievable, and the presentation is amazing. Well worth a visit.

We visited the information centre on 3rd August and got some very helpful information from the lady attendant. On her advice, we booked the combined cotton farm and vineyard tour for the following day. At $50.00 per person, this tour was a knockout. Conducted by volunteer cotton farmers, who use the proceeds to raise money for local charities. The tour started at 10:00 and took us by mini bus to a local farm where the process of cotton growing and harvesting was explained with practical examples provided by working farm machinery. The system of irrigation is amazing as are the laser levelled paddocks. Next we were taken to the Riversands Winery where the proprietor gave an excellent tour of his table and wine grape enterprise, followed by tasting in the garden and lunch. We were collected from our motel and delivered back there. In all, a tour of over 4 hours for $50.00 is a real bargain and not to be missed.

This was a spur of the moment visit, but well worth it. After 5 minutes or so, we were joined by a local young man who took us back to the start and explained the stories behind all the paintings as we made our way through. The paintings are beautiful, and the back stories were very interesting for an Aussie who has only been exposed to the basics of our indigenous history.

Take a trip to the outskirts of town to rest at the Beardmore Dam recreation area where you'll have the chance to spot a mob of kangaroos lazing around. Upstream from the Beardmore Dam is the point where the Maranoa and Balonne Rivers meet forming the northern catchment of the Murray Darling Basin. Find out more on the importance of Beardmore Dam through the Cotton Self Drive Trail.
Set down here and watch the sunset over the river it was quite magical and enjoyable. A great place for doing sunset photography. There is a public pontoon and boat ramp.
