Springfield is perhaps best known as the birthplace of basketball and home of the Basketball Hall of Fame. (The story goes that local physical education teacher James Naismith invented the sport to fill the gaps between football and baseball seasons.) But this historic town on the shores of the Connecticut River is famous for a few other reasons and definitely worth a quick jaunt or weekend away. Springfield was the birthplace and home of beloved children's author and illustrator, Theodore Geisel, Dr. Seuss. In fact, the Zoo in Forest Park, a sure hit with the kids, is said to be the inspiration for many of his wild and wacky tales. Wander through the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, at the Quadrangle, for a look at the Cat in the Hat and Yertle the Turtle cast in bronze. The city served as a major arsenal during the Revolutionary War, a role that is commemorated at the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, which displays an enormous collection of small pistols. History buffs will also enjoy the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum, a tribute to the ordinary people of the region who, during various periods in time, did extraordinary things.

For all those reasons, I had a GREAT experience here. Didn’t come home rich, but had a really enjoyable time gambling, eating, drinking, sightseeing, and socializing in this MGM location. If you are a Vegas person and want more drama and lots of crazy scenarios- then stay away and keep this place nice. It was very clean and there was a great outside patio with a huge TV along with a cool sports bar to sit and eat at also. I met family there and we all had a good time. Bartenders and wait staff were very friendly and all 4 of us left after a full day there and would definitely return. Parking was easy and free in the parking garage when we went also. Loved that!

They could seriously use a tattoo removal specialist to go in there and clean up. There are too many women and men here with tattoos. It would be a lot classier if they made them cover them up or remove them. MGM did a good job with the look of the casino blending in with downtown. It would be nice if there were more shops. There’s a jeweler there... Hanoush I think... but I find it annoying that they hide the prices so you have to talk with a sales person. There is an Indian Motorcycle apparel shop that rocks solid balls of awesomeness. There is a nice shop that has candles and chocolate and stuff. There are some decent eats there like Bills Diner that has the best breakfast sandwiches ever. The hotel is nice. Yes the walls are thin but it hasn’t been an issue for me. It’s great to have it for the community. The movie theater and bowling are nice touches.
