Invercargill Water Tower

This is a beautiful, easily identifiable, antique landmark in Invercargill, that is close to everything. I was able to walk around it, take pictures and explore its grounds.

Signpost

Reviewed By klvmar

The signpost at Stirling Point in Bluff, NZ marks the start/finish of the Te Araroa (New Zealand's Trail), the 3000 km trail that connects the southernmost point in the South Island to Cape Reinga, the northernmost point in the North Island. The signpost also shows the mileage to New York, London, and other major cities of the world. Just a few feet away is an impressive Maori sculpture, a metal chain link structure leading to the sea. Very cool!

Clifden Suspension Bridge

Reviewed By klvmar

When the Clifden Suspension Bridge was built in 1898-1899, it was the longest suspension bridge in New Zealand. Today, it is a "Registered Place" with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust in recognition of its status as an "engineering achievement of outstanding heritage significance." This magnificent old structure is now closed to vehicular traffic, but it can still be crossed on foot, offering great views of the river below it. It is easily accessible from State Hwy 99, with a car park and a picnic area nearby. On the day we visited, a rooster and hen were begging for crumbs from our picnic table...and trout were visible in the stream.

Slope Point

Reviewed By GaryandLesleyTravel - Auckland Central, New Zealand

The 20 minute walk to the southern most point of the South Island and therefore the New Zealand mainland across farmland did nothing to prepare us for the sensational wind swept cliff faces at the point. This is high, rugged and vertigo inducing coastal beauty with more stunning views down the coast each way. At this point you are 5140 km from the Equator and 4803 km from the South Pole.
