everything that one may need for entertainment is present at Southbank Promenade - water front, cruises, walkways, walking bridges, restaurants, strong night life, picturesque surroundings, fun atmosphere walking bridges to cross the yarra river and even the eureka Skydeck. Location is close to Flinders station and a very short walk from the CBD. Southbank even has a Seven-eleven and McDonalds. There are several seating chairs, restrooms, and enough trashcans. Nothing you have ever experienced will prepare you for the awe inspiring view of Melbourne from the observation deck of the highest public vantage point in the Southern Hemisphere. Located at Level 88, Eureka Skydeck is Melbourne's new 'must-see' attraction. Skydeck 88 is the only observation deck in the world that can thrill you with the Edge - a glass cube which projects 3 metres out from the building, with you in it!
My husband and I took our UK based grandson to Eureka sky deck early on a Monday morning and were very impressed with the service, security and the outstanding views. we also loved the fact that we were able to toast our trip there with some bubbly at a very reasonable price. Stunning views and a delightful gift shop.

This beautiful bluestone building in St. Kilda Road is opposite expansive parkland and the Shrine of Remembrance. Unsurprisingly it is not possible to enter the barracks. During the Second World war Australia's War Cabinet Rooms were here. Interestingly in some parts of Australia supporting a football team is often called 'barracking' for the team. It is said that in early Melbourne football was played in this area and the public watched from in front of these barracks, hence the term 'barracking'.

This is a great reminder of how hard police work to keep us safe. This monument stands quietly amongst the greenery and along St Kilda Rd in Melbourne. It is a noble structure for a noble force and serves it's purpose well. The inscription states: This memorial recognises the ultimate sacrifice paid by members of the Victoria Police Force in maintaining law & order in Victoria. The memorial stands as a symbol of the community's deepest respect and as a tribute to those members of the Victoria Police Force who have given their lives in the line of duty so that the Victorian community is a safer place for all. The names of Police officers who died on duty are cast in bronze plaques set into the wall. Currently adorned with wreaths and floral tributes due to the recent tragedy where 4 police were killed in 1 incident. Worth a visit no matter the time of year.
