Well worth a visit and easy to find. It’s a very narrow bridge so take care when crossing over it, Great that it has been retained for future generations to enjoy

You'll drive across the 'new' bridge to enter Alex, but it's worth having a closer look if your walking anywhere on the river. The steel truss bridge currently in use dates back to only 1958 but the piers of the original 1882 suspension bridge are just as handsome and look as solid as the day they were built. You have to love Victorian engineers!

A handsome walking suspension bridge (although early in its life it was for horse-drawn vehicles) with an interesting view into the amazingly bluey-greeny water of the Clutha and up to the mountain clock. Check out the explanatory board before marching across; particularly the amazing details on how high the floods of earlier years have reached. If you wander a few metres down the road you'll see the cute little book house shown in my photograph!

Bridge of Remembrance is a wonderful dedication to those soldiers who passed away in World War I. It is a stone bridge with a sculpted triumphal memorial arch. Certainly worth a photo stop.

When the Clifden Suspension Bridge was built in 1898-1899, it was the longest suspension bridge in New Zealand. Today, it is a "Registered Place" with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust in recognition of its status as an "engineering achievement of outstanding heritage significance." This magnificent old structure is now closed to vehicular traffic, but it can still be crossed on foot, offering great views of the river below it. It is easily accessible from State Hwy 99, with a car park and a picnic area nearby. On the day we visited, a rooster and hen were begging for crumbs from our picnic table...and trout were visible in the stream.

It's a bridge that safely got me to the other side so it gets a 5 rating. A good spot to watch the shotover boats run through the canyon.
