At Fyn, the island in the middle of Denmark - about 2 hours drive from Copenhagen - a fascinating Japanese was the festive set-up for a family and friend's lunch gathering this fall. Amazingly true to Japanese garden culture and tradition the garden (& it's excellent restaurant) surprised us all with is tranquility, it's beauty and variation. The hosts shared not only their vision for this "dream of their life project" but also their enthusiasm, love and commitment to create a special place - not only for themselves but for travellers/visitors like us. Can not recommend it enough.

I kept coming back several times a day and really enjoyed walking in this beautiful park just a few steps from the city center. I truly recommend.

The contents of the five gardens and the arboretum are arranged according to the type of illness to be treated. Some plants appear in more than one garden. The descriptions are detailed and are in Danish. There is a guidebook descibing 200 of the plants, together with their history and amusing anecdotes, which can be purchased at the bookshop in Rudkøbing

The Geographical Garden in Kolding is a botanical garden where there are activities for the whole family. The plants are organized according to geographical origin. You can visit the bamboo groves of China, see the beautiful cherry trees of Japan or walk through the evergreen forests of North America. There are thousands of roses in our award-winning rose gardens and in February and March blooming camelias in the greenhouse. Children can pet the animals in our petting zoo or play on one of several playgrounds. Your visit can also include a walk around a miniature version of the city of Kolding. You can find inspiration for your own garden in our theme gardens and enjoy the many events held during the summer. Bring your own picnic basket or purchase tasty refreshments in Cafe Lykkefund.
Extraordinary place! Our children loved it. It has everything you could hope for. We spent 3 hrs here. It has 2 big playgrounds with a Viking ship, excavators, slides, wooden train. It has a petting zoo. You can actually go in and pet goats, alpaca an ponies. There were birds, monkeys. It has a mini city (fun!). Caves to play in. We all had ice cream at the end of the day :)
