The Almond Train

Reviewed By AM557 - Adelaide, Australia

This was a wonderful accident for us - driving down the road, passing through McLaren Vale when our eyes caught sight of this train carriage strategically located. Easy parking, up a few stairs and into a wondercarriage of delight. This place showcases local produce and the generosity of the counterman was wonderful. We were able to sample around 16 different types of almonds, cashews, chili chocolate, and oils. The specialty gifts were wonderful and I could not go past buying a bottle of Dragons Roar Sauce by Lacewood and a very very hot hot chilli paste named Holy Ghost by Big Sissy Foods and it states on the label Blimmin' Hot Kasundi - ...not for wusses! When we did try our purchases at home - definitely a you bute chilli. I also bought some amazing Turkish Delight apparently made by a local Persian lady. She has a great recipe. Its just such a great place to stop and visit and make a few purchases. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
