It is a fact of life nowadays that tourist dollars means lots of tourists ! Just try to catch an attraction without the coach party !! Can;t blame then for being all over this site as they are pretty special and after 500 million years of sculpting by mother nature this is a real special view. The different weathering of the Rocks has left some iconic pieces. Really glad we got to see the RR's and loved it !

When most people think of the Flinders ranges they think of Wilpena Pound. Don't dismiss the southern ranges. Alligator gorge is beautiful; with a good assortment of walks suitable for a diverse range of fitness levels. Plenty of wildlife, kangaroos, emus, lizards to entertain along the way. There are several accommodation options in the park or you can stay at Wilmington and take a short drive to the national park. My only criticism is that the walks are not as well signposted as may other national parks. The southern Flinders are'nt as well known as the northern section but they are still good - particularly if you are on a budget

After a couple of hours on the road, pulling into Lake McIntyre was just what we wanted. A chance to get out of the car, stretch the legs, have a snack in a quiet beautiful wetlands area. About 5km west of Millicent just off the Rendelsham Road, there is a lot of car parking all within easy access to the facilities including toilets, BBQ area and a walking track. An interpretive centre focuses on the local fauna and flora and for the bird lovers there is a bird hide. We enjoyed the time exploring the area at late morning which unfortunately meant not many birds around. Of note was the information regarding the use of dead trees and how important they are for habitats for our native animals and birds – something I had never really thought about. Compliments to the volunteers who maintain the beauty of the lake area. Return? Definitely to further explore the area at leisure!

Absolutely amazing, really enjoyed our time here, they are on private property, the area is well maintained, toilets and a picnic area. $2 a person or $5 a family, well worth it. They are large well weathered granite outcrops, and got their name because a passer by long ago mistook them for Haystacks. Really worth a visit!!
