March 21, 2018 Matilde Konrad

In Sonoma, you can go wine-tasting… or cheese-tasting… or olive oil-tasting… or just let the chefs of the area’s renowned restaurants put everything together for you. Then burn off some of that good food and wine by hiking or biking through redwood forests.

Sonoma Valley

One of the prime wine producing regions in California. A visit to Sonoma Valley yields an outstanding array of food, lodging and scenery.

Walt just off the Sonoma square is a sit down slow tasting. Great Pinot and a good Chardonnay. Have done many tastings in the Sonoma valley in the last 10 years. Like the coastal pinots and Chardonnays. You can go up dry creek for the warmer wine. A lot of good wine in a less formal environment.

I went to school in Sonoma and never came to the Sonoma coast. That is such a pity because I didn’t know how it is so amazing. In fact, I’d dare say the Sonoma Coast is perhaps the mosgt amazing stretch of coast in California. The awesome beauty lies in its breathtaking waves, cliffs, and rock formations. It is stunning how it just continues for miles on end. There are numerous beaches such as Coleman, Arched Rock, Carmet, Schoolhouse, Portuguese and Gleason Beach that offer the same types of views and formations that are just mind boggling. If you are on a coast trip, make sure to spend at least a day at these beaches as you will not be disappointed!

Lovely Italian Winery! Love their Primitivo! Great olive oil selection and a very knowledgeable staff! A must go in Sonoma! We have visited from Florida on several occasions and never fail to stop by! As Cline wine club members(which is right across the street), we enjoy sister winery discounts and complimentary tasting. We always buy a bottle or two of their wine; and wonderful olive oil!

We went to Sonoma Plaza. The area was festive with the lights in the park area. We went for a festive holiday dinner at the Swiss Hotel Restaurant and Bar. There are a variety of wine tasting rooms, boutiques, theater and historic mission to see at the Sonoma Plaza.

Great winery, but absolutely terrible service from the woman pictured. We requested a wine sample, she poured different glasses and wouldn’t tell us what that they were. She then refused to answer the question of what we were drinking and helped someone else. While she was helping someone else, who was obviously over 60 who didn’t want to leave their birthdate she rudely said she had to have their birthdate with no explanation or joke.

On the flip side, Peter was fantastic and sold us over $100 of wine.... didn’t appreciate the negativity from the lady pictured.

Came here to offer my husband the chance to indulge in his favorites with a zinfandel heavy tasting. We sprung for the outdoor seating because the view of the vineyards was really very pretty, and throughly enjoyed the wine selection. Our host even graciously poured us two additional samples. We purchased a bottle of the reserve (one of the most expensive on the menu) because it was truly delicious and I was surprised that the 25$ tasting fee was not comped (apparently you need to buy three bottles) but enjoyed our time and the wine enough that we would go back regardless.

Buena Vista Winery

A recommended wine-tasting venue in Sonoma Valley.

We had been here six years ago before they began all the improvements. At that time it was a sleepy little winery with a wine making museum that definitely had the feel of the "oldest winery". We decided to return to see the new face of it. I think I may like the old way better. We decided to do a walk-in and it didn't feel very welcoming. I actually wanted to skip it but my husband encouraged me to stay. Everything just felt so impersonal and commercial. The wines were fine, we bought a bottle for dinner that night, but I don't think I would recommend this - I felt it wasn't interesting and the wines, though good, were not outstanding enough to come for just the wines. There was a lovely terrace to sit at outside.

As the oldest family-owned winery in California, we specialize in making distinctive estate-grown wines and sharing them and our property in a warm, fun, unpretentious manner.

We visited the Gundlach Bundschu Winery before the horrible fires in Sonoma and Napa Valleys this fall and we were relieved to find out they survived with little damage. What a beautiful property! We took the cave tour and found it extremely informative and interesting. Our tour guide (her name was Cat or Kat) was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Of course, we had wine tastings as well and their wines are excellent; we bought several bottles. Overall, a great experience. Don't miss this one when visiting Sonoma Valley.

We went to this winery for a tasting with a couple of friends and enjoyed the experience. We ordered both the regular and the reserved tasting. Across both, we definitely preferred their red wines. The tasting was reasonably priced by Napa-Sonoma standards - $10 for 5 wines in the regular tasting and $20 for 6 wines in the reserved tasting. The grounds were nice and the staff we met was friendly. All in all, a nice time.
