Štanjel Castle is one of the largest castle buildings in the Karst and a dominant part of the old settlement. Originally a much smaller medieval building owned by the Counts of Gorizia, it was inherited by the Habsburgs in the early 16th century and given to the feudal Counts of Cobenzl. With the exception of the brief Venetian occupation and possession of the Coronini family of Kromberk, the Cobenzli ruled Stanjel until 1810, when the family became extinct. The commemorative plaques testify that the Cobenzli castle began to be remodeled in 1583, and today it was given a Baroque-Renaissance appearance around 1661. During the First World War, a hospital for officers was set up in the castle. In the period between World War I and WWII, the castle was transformed into the central space of social events by the idea and merit of Max Fabiani.

The newly renovated Vipolze Vila is one of the most beatiful renassaince buildings in Slovenia. Located in-between the vineyards of the magical Brda region, the villa offers events capacities (congress, corporate, cultural, weddings, private) as long as tours around the building, exhibitions, different cultural events, a caffe bar and a park with the oldest cypress trees in Slovenia (app. 500 years old). There is also a restaurant in the villa KRUH IN VINO, Tomaz Kavcic signature (owner who is famous Slovenian chef in Zemono). https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g1566560-d13238227-Reviews-Kruh_in_Vino-Dobrovo_Slovenian_Littoral_Region.html
We had what the restaurant is famous for - bread and wine. We tried several kinds of bread (pogača, in italian focata). High quality regional wine is served per glass. Staff was extremely kind and helpful, thoroughly presented all the dishes. We paid 50 EUR (3 people, main dish + desert).

Nice little castle worth a short stop. But the views of the coast are fantastic so it is good to explore the sourounding paths above the cliff. Just 15 min away you can also visit a small underground cave . There is an altar in it and you can see it through iron gates, cave is open just on certain days.
