Slave Lake is a small town in northern Alberta, Canada about 200 km northwest of Edmonton and a similar distance southwest of Fort McMurray. It is located on the southeast shore of Lesser Slave Lake, at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 88, in the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124.

Last week we went camping at Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park. Our original plan was to head out to Vancouver Island; we sure are glad we stayed in Alberta! The lake is beautiful and the facilities for camping are excellent. The beach is rocky and you may need to make a bit of a hike to find a clear spot, but it was worth it. The water is so clean (algae free) and calm; you can fish, canoe, swim or just wade around. The camp ground is clean and well maintained. Bring firewood if you can; they sell it there but the wood can be damp. Bring your bike and take a ride or grab a daypack and go for a little hike. Being only a three hour drive, it is a hidden jewel in Alberta!

The BCBC is definitely worth a visit when you're in the Slave Lake area. It's a small but modern museum nestled in the forest. The building is beautiful with many interactive displays and exhibits. There's a big craft room for the kids and a reasonably-priced gift shop. The grounds has several short hiking loops for enjoying nature and seeing birds in the area. Staff is friendly and helpful. A real hidden gem! Tripadvisor didn't even have an entry for it yet! No entry fee, with donations requested.

This is one of the nicest lakes in Alberta and yet the lake isn't over crowded like most of the other lakes in central Alberta.
You can walk out forever, and the sandbars are amazing as you can find yourself up to you shoulders one minute and the next even farther out you have water by your knee's
Love this lake, but be cautious if a big wind comes up, as it becomes rough real fast.

A 18 hole public golf course located in the Lesser Slave Lake provincial park. Surround yourself in the boreal forest right next to the beautiful Lesser Slave Lake. We have a fully serviced pro shop and provide club and power cart rentals. We also have a fully licensed restaurant where you can unwind after your round on the deck or enjoy a unique dining experience.

Chef Tony is an asset to this community which is sadly lacking in local and creative restaurants. Boasting a wide range of western craft beers and featuring daily lunch and dinner specials, this is a spot not to be missed! Everything house made. I highly recommend the beet salad and chicken burger with bacon jam and the creme caramel. Oh, you can also golf here. I just come for the food!
