Although Singapore is a garden city, if you are a tourist who crave for some walking experience among nature-then this is a suitable place. It is easily accessibe with many buses (167, 980, 157, 132 etc) stopping at the bus stop right in front of the park. The nearest mrt stop is Marymount station. There are 4 suitable trails for tourists: 1) Lornie Trail followed by Jering Boardwalk and Chemperai Boardwalk. This trail starts after the zig zag bridge and it takes about 1.5 hours round trip. 2) Macritchie Nature Trail followed Petai Boardwalk and Prunus Boardwalk round trip which takes about 1.5 hours. The trail starts quite near to Marymount mrt or the bus stop along Thomson road. 3) To do the treetop walk, it is easiest to start at Venus Loop, then Venus Link, Pierce Track, Treetop walk, Petaling Boardwalk, Sime track and Golf Link. One can exit at the end of Golf Link to Lornie Road or continue on using with Lornie trail or Jering Boardwalk to the entrance of Macritchie Reservoir. The Treetop walk is closed on Monday. This walk probably takes 2 hours. 4) One can walk around the reservoir in 2 hours by starting at Lornie Trail and ending at Macritchie Nature Trail or do the loop the other way round. There is a cafe at the park for refreshments near the entrance. This park is popular with the locals doing their exercise so it is safe to walk.

The river flows through the heart of Singapore City. It journeys on through the Quays, and past historic and modern landmarks. It flows into Marina Bay where the Arts Science Museum, Marina Bay Sands, Theatres on the Bay are located. Other sights are the Singapore Flyer Gardens by the Bay the impressive Fullerton Bay Hotel and Customs House There is the iconic Merlion Park and the Statue spouting water into the River. Also along the riverside is the Raffles Landing Site. Sunday 20th October we took a riverboat tour along the River, this was an ideal way to see the City. From this old waterway there are some incredible sights of the old and modern Singapore. The length of the River is 2 miles and it has played a major role in the history of Singapore. It is crossed by several bridges a mixture of design styles, some modern and some older. The Helix Bridge being the most unusual. Some are pedestrianised others carry both pedestrians and vehicles. In October 2019, three Bridges, Cavenagh, Anderson and Elgin Bridges were classified as the 73rd National Monument of Singapore. They are collectively known as the Singapore River Bridges. Day or night along the River there is always a wonderful atmosphere and something to see and do, the list is endless.

The Lower Peirce Reservoir, Singapore's second-oldest reservoir, was built by impounding the upper reaches of the Kallang River (the longest river in Singapore) and was commissioned in 1912. Hence it was originally named Kallang River Reservoir. In 1922, the reservoir was renamed the Peirce Reservoir in recognition of Robert Peirce, who was the Municipal Engineer of Singapore from 1901 to 1916. It acquired its current name in 1975, after the Upper Peirce Reservoir was built. This reservoir is like a compact MacRitchie Reservoir as the boardwalk trails, playground, fishing area and walking path around the reservoir with its draw-off tower are all within short walking distance. In fact it probably takes less than 1.5 hours to cover the Lower Pierce Reservoir. There are marvellous views of the rolling golf course of the Singapore Island Country Club and the Upper Pierce Reservoir. Although the boardwalk is only 900 m long, it is a peaceful walk by the water’s edge through a mature secondary forest. A plant seen along the walk is the Ant Plant (home for ants). The ant and this plant have a symbiotic relationship. The ant depends on this plant for its food while the plant is protected from being eaten up by other insects by the resident ant. The Nibong Palm, also seen here, has many thorns on its trunk. As the plot of land adjacent to it was formerly a rubber plantation, many rubber trees are also seen here. There are informative signboard along the boardwalk to educate about the flora and fauna of this forest.

This is a nice area to take a stroll and enjoy the surrounding views or just marvel at some of the amazing structures that are accessible. The promenade is some 3.5km in length, we maybe strolled one kilometer enjoying the sights of impressive buildings, the Marina Bay Hotel, activities on the bay, some nice shade areas, but we finally yielded to the 39c heat and high humidity and headed to the Mall for some A/C comfort. City planning with vision.
