Sifnos (Greek: Σίφνος; the spelling Siphnos is obsolete in English but still by convention often used to refer to the island in ancient times) is an island municipality in the Cyclades island group in Greece. The main town, near the center, known as Apollonia (pop. 869), is home of the island's folklore museum and library. The town's name is thought to come from an ancient temple of Apollo on the site of the church of Panayia Yeraniofora. The second-largest town is Artemonas (800), thought to be named after an ancient temple of Apollo's sister-goddess Artemis, located at the site of the church of Panayia Kokhi. The village of Kastro (118), was the capital of the island during ancient times until 1836. It is built on top of a high cliff on the island's east shore and today has extensive medieval remains and is the location of the island's archeological museum. The port settlement, on the west coast of the island is known as Kamares (245).

A trip to Sifnos is not complete unless you visit the main island city of Appolonia. Sitting in the center of the island, there is no beach, but there is a lovely avenue of shops, restaurants, bars and terrace dining areas. For those people looking for original, locally produced island designed jewelry, BLE is a must-visit. Owned and operated by the designer proprietors, this husband and wife shop has original earrings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants, rings and more. Well priced, with loads of originality, any item at BLE is a unique keepsake or aspecial gift. The owners have their workshop on the island with a sweeping view of vistas and sea. This is where they take their inspiration for their jewelry that ranges from edgy to whimsical. Cash or credit card accepted, but paying in cash helps support this local business that is artist owned. The store caries some other select items made by local artisans such as pottery, glass, and shawls.

The shop of the silversmith Panagiotis 'Maximos' Fanariotis selling elegant hand-made jewellery at very good prices.
This lovely store is a must while visiting Sifnos island. It is located in Kastro - a village that is worth a stop in itself. The store overlooks the ocean (in the back of the village) and the designer/owner is super nice. His pendant and ring designs are beautiful and elegant with simple lines. Best selection on the island - and very affordable. I'm pretty picky when it comes to jewelry but there were so many pieces I Ioved!
