What to do and see in Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, Andalucia: The Best Tours

October 11, 2021 Venice Greaves

Featuring limestone cliffs, cave systems (the largest of which—the Hundidero-Gato complex —has prehistoric origins), and deep gorges, it’s no wonder that Sierra de Grazalema is considered to be one of Spain’s most stunning ecological landscapes. Budding botanists can lose themselves in more than 1,300 different species of flora, while birders will delight in the prospect of seeing communities of Bonelli’s eagles and the endangered Egyptian vulture. More into mammals? The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is also home to genets, mountain goats, and otters

Enjoy a private tour to the White Towns of Andalusia. The White Towns of Andalusia are a series of towns in southern Spain, mostly within Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. All of the villages are characterized by white washed walls and red or brown tiled roofs. Some say that these villages paint the white house to ward off the intense summer heat that affects mainly the towns along the Sierra de Grazalema. But keep whitewashed houses is a very ancient custom in the Mediterranean to disinfect the environment in the plague epidemic period. The lime mixed with water produces a high heat kill any microorganism. Therefore, people living in cities with houses "whitewashed" ended up escaping more disease than those who did not.  Today times have changed, but the tradition is still alive, somehow, marking the time to paint the facades ( "whitewashed"). So much so that in some pueblos blancos, you can paint the exteriors of homes without taxes.

Gabriella and Juan were wonderful tour guides - we learned so much and saw some wonderful sites. They picked us up from our hotel right on time and we enjoyed an entertaining and educational road trip to Ronda. We loved this town and the great stores about Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles made it even more enjoyable. Sentinil is such a cute town as well and the houses and bars against the mountain are so unique! We had a great time and we highly recommend this tour! ????

• We will discover in a private tour the birds and nature of Grazalema and Ronda Mountains with an expert ornithologist. • It presents a mountainous geography with a mix of cliffs and dense forest. We can find here the Spanish Fir forest which easily grows because this is one of the areas with the highest instance of rainfall in the whole Iberian Peninsula. • Grazalema is very important because of the cliff raptors population: Golden Eagle, Bonelli’s Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Egyptian Vulture, and Griffon Vulture. Other interesting birds are Black Wheatear, Rock Sparrow, Blue-rock Trush, Rock Bunting... • Grazalema is also the land of the Spanish Ibex. • We will drive along minor roads and do short, easy walks in search of birds and wildlife.

Inclusions: Hotel pick-up and drop-off., Use of binoculars and scope.

We are in our late sixties and were a bit worried about whether we could cope with e-biking. We need not have worried. Wayne was brilliant, totally aware of our ability, took us on appropriate tracks and was an enjoyable companion. The weather was a bit wet, sadly, but we had a great time and hope to return in better weather. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best experiences ever! We arranged it for a friend's birthday surprise. Mahsa was extremely helpful in the run-up to the event and very friendly in all communications. The show itself was outstanding, with Costanza accompanied by an excellent singer and guitarist. We opted for this upgrade and it was definitely worth it. The three performers explained the music in English, asked us if we had any questions, and then taught us a few steps. All in all, an extremely enjoyable hour and would TOTALLY recommend! Olé

Our show tonight (Wednesday, 3/11/20) was a highlight of our week in Madrid and the deal of the century. 20 Euros got us a drink and almost a two hour show. The passion and excellence of this group (3 dancers, 1 singer and 1 guitarist) was incredible. The love for what they do is clearly evident. Passion beyond belief; every expression meant something, every movement contributed to the intensity build through the show. Highly recommended!!! Skip the touristy versions of flamenco and come out this small neighborhood stage for a show that will absolutely nock your socks off. Thank-you

Prado del Rey is ideal for learning Spanish, because you will feel at home here in a short time. Thanks to the hospitality and open-mindedness of the locals, you can quickly engage in conversation and apply what you have learned. Another key advantage of Prado del Rey is that most people speak only Spanish and you have no choice but to communicate in Spanish. So the application of the Spanish language is guaranteed for you. Especially the students from abroad have the opportunity to socialize because the locals are very open to foreigners. In this way many lasting friendships have been created.

I highly recommend this Spanish language course. They really tailored the class for each of us in the family. Firstly, my boys being active and at different levels was a challenge at any place to figure out the optimal learning environment. They not only incorporated a sports camp integrated with other local Spaniards but also had the language course with activities. For example, my boys loved soccer so they developed a game with using soccer players and a finger ball, coloring various flags of national teams. We visited during the soccer world cup so this was very important when they interacted with the kids in camp and understood the countries in Spanish and had practiced expressing themselves. It was also ideal location everything in walking distance minus the camp (but that wasn't a problem at all). I do have to admit the accommodations aren't high end but if your going to learn and become immersed then you have to adjust to the life. I did have some issues with hot water and TV but Anja, immediately left her dinner party and addressed the concerns. So that does mean the world when you just want to take a warm shower and someone goes out of their way for you continuously. People in the community are very friendly. I'm pretty fluent but needed a little more help. The classes helped me work on my dificencies and helped me gain confidence to practice with locals and make friends with other parents from the camp! We then spent another week in a very touristy area, Marbella, in which boys took more classes and anther soccer camp with "high end accommodations" but we just wanted to go back to Prado de Rey. The kids learned more because they interacted more with the kids due to the people. Same with my husband and I. Plus the price is much better.
