Crazy place with something for everyone. The owner is “one of a kind” and he alone is worth the stop if you’re near Truth or Consequences, NM.

This isn't like Tombstone. There are no novelty photo booths or actors roaming the streets. (There's also no food. Stop in Winston to get snacks and drinks, and to use the bathroom!) This is an ACTUAL ghost town. If that's your jam, you're going to love this. I had a great time learning about the history of the town from the people who helped give it new life it as an attraction. Talk to Don & Donna and they'll tell you everything you want to know and more. Make sure you buy Don's book in the gift shop! It is a really interesting read: action, adventure, death by skunk. While you're there, please be polite and don't take photos of peoples' houses. People actually do live here so if there are signs of life, no photos. Talk to Don & Donna first if you aren't sure.

NM does Veteran Parks really well. This was a great history lesson, followed by a great hike to the Rio Grande. Bring a picnic - two covered tables.

Trekking through the Gila National Forest to our destination, we found a sweet spot at the Winston General Store. Yes, they have many products like food, ice cream, camping supplies, and kitchen plates and dishes, but they have the best bathrooms...large and clean...that also includes your own private shower! Whether you need a piece of fruit, or a pit stop, this is a quaint reminder of the past and a very handy location for a quick stop for gas.

I just discovered this is a volunteer run book store and Coffee shop and all I can say is “ well done community “. Eccentric and funky , friendly and knowledgeable. Even if you don’t want to buy a book ( and you may with their excellent prices ) it’s a great place to sit and chat with locals ( and their dogs ) over the best priced coffee downtown.

A small craft brewery in the historic hot springs bathhouse district of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Our mission is to make great beer and make people happy. Bring a picnic OR order in from local restaurants nearby.
This brewery had a great selection of beers they brew, and rotating taps. We got a flight, a pint, and a growler to go and it was reasonably priced. Definitely try the green Chile beer!

Picnic tables, river walk trail, cool people. Bally with the dog. Seasonal craft /growers fair on weekends. Great place to hang out.
