This winery reflects the quality and work ethic of its founder, Dick Naylor. Over the years the wine has, in my opinion, gotten better, especially the dry wines. They have a large barn/shed like structure for the tasting area. Concerts are held on Saturdays during the summer; bring a lawn chair and a picnic basket to hear music under the stars. Tastings are $5 for five ( I think) wines, plus you get to keep the glass. This is worth the stop.

Whenever possible we treat people to a sit down tasting of our wines in an upscale tasting room. We have a small selection of cheeses but you are welcome to bring a lunch or snack or food that you would like to try to pair to our wines. It is our focus to create award winning fine wines inspired by (but not lesser imitations of) the best wines in the world. Most of our wines are made with fruit from our vineyard. We strive to take a unique approach to each wine and each vintage to bring out the best qualities of that particular grape for that particular year. We constantly endeavor to get a deeper and broader understanding of different wine making and blending strategies to improve our product. To further this goal we are committed to trialing grape varieties that are new or uncommon to our area.

Okay so Maryland is not really known for its wines but there are a lot of wineries around and if you are going to go to one I really recommend this one. The owners Roy and Linda were wonderful to our party and made up all sorts of little hors d'oeuvres to go with the wine tasting. we were inside because of the extreme heat but the grounds looked very pretty . Would definitely go back again

My husband is a rail fan so riding each and every train we come across is a must. I found this tourist train and booked the longer 2.5 hour ride with the special Steam engine.
My husband was ecstatic and I thought the train was very pretty and photo worthy. I booked online and found that for 3 tickets there were 3 separate fees/ New Freedom Borough Amusement tax $3.90, preservation fee $3, reservation handling fee $3. So an additional almost $10 in taxes/fees. I believe $1.30 plus $1, plus $1 was per ticket.
It was a humid Sunday but we boarded and had our choice of the back car - open windows with only several long pads for the lengthwise seats or the middle car with open smaller windows but forward facing seats or the first car behind the Steam engine which had a souvenir display area in it.
We had a delightful ride in the last car as it was slightly humid and we keep cool by the shade cover of the trees along the route and a slight breeze. We enjoyed our ride very much. Water is sold on the train for a dollar as well as t-shirts etc.
You need to know that the train backs up for the first half of the trip and after a 20 min. stop at Hanover, it simply pulls forward for the trip back which is a little less smooth than the first part of the trip. The conductor narrates into a microphone along the way but it is a little garbled. I would suggest that they make a hand out to give each group as they are also a historical preservation group and this would serve to have people be able to verify what they thought they heard on the speaker.
All in all a nice ride, scenery was not particularly impressive as there is a biking/ walking path the whole length of the train so on this day we saw lots of waving bikers and dog walkers. Volunteers are very friendly and informative.

Stopped in with friends and did the tasting. They have something for everyone, reds, whites, dry and sweet. I'm a dry red drinker and enjoyed their Chambourcin, very good. Cabernet Franc was a bit thin for my taste. Also enjoyed their dry Riesling. Everyone else also enjoyed the selections. Nice stop, owner was very cordial.

Though the Pennsylvania Welcome Center is small, it is packed with information and the staff is very helpful. We have stopped here many times over the past 40 years,because it is loaded with city/region specific information for the entire state, and this should be your 1st stop when visiting PA.

Best blueberry bushes around for pick-your-own (and I have picked at several other places in southern York County). We also pick apples, peaches, and pumpkins here, depending on the season. This is family-owned, and they are very friendly. For pumpkins, you pay a flat fee for a tractor ride to the patch, and you can get any pumpkin for that fee. We have picked strawberries here in the past - some are sweet, some are not, depends on variety of berry...for strawberry picking - you pay $5 per person for a wagon ride to the fields, but this will be credited to your total amount when you check in afterwards. Shaw's also has a great farm market with ready-picked fruits and veggies, cider, and some baked goods. Great place!

If you love watercolors of historical buildings, streetscapes, and objects, you will enjoy a visit to the John Stevens Gallery in Shrewsbury, Pa.
We visit regularly to see what's new in John's collection. There are a number of large original works for sale and well-made reproductions in a variety of sizes, all beautifully framed in real wood.
John can take everyday objects like a crock, or an old wooden wheelbarrow, or a fine old stone house surrounded by the tracery of winter trees and evoke a different time and place. If you're lucky, you might find the artist at work in the shop.
An added attraction is an adorable puppy who will greet you, and a peek into the adjacent house to see John's collection of antique furniture and decorative objects. If you check his Web site, you will see when John sponsors an open house and invites you into the home. Be sure to look into the garden to see the koi pond, too.
