Despite having the Kansai Hokoriku tourist pass, I paid for the Nohi bus from Kanazawa to Shirakawago and going up to Takayama and didnt realise it until I met another tourist at the Shirakawago Tourist Information Center who shared she used the pass for this route. The tourist center at Kanazawa didnt check with me, nor did I think of doing so. I enquired at the Shirakawago Tourist Center if at all there was any possibility for a refund and they immediately swung to action, spoke to Takayama Center and in a matter of a minute I was given a slip of paper with instructions to the Takayama Center to refund me the money upon my arrival there. Unbelievable but true and I was extremly touched how gracefully the staff there handled the matter.

Not center of Gassho village, but easy to access by car for take a rest. You can have cheap local eats and local souvenirs. Gassho museum is inside and free admission. So, you can learn Gassho house at air-conditioned place.
