The tour was just like a live stream. You will get on a rickshaw and your friendly driver will show you around in Kyoto. After the ride, your guide will walk with you and take you to the beautiful bamboo forest and Tenruji Temple. You will also meet monkeys at the park in Iwatayama! The only thing I was disappointed about was I couldn't taste the Shojin Ryori or Buddhist vegetarian meal that our guide Mickey-san showed and explained. I should be on the real tour!

While we were sad to have to cancel our July trip to Japan due to the pandemic, we found the process of working with Japan Awaits to be easy and efficient. I can't speak to the full experience since we weren't able to go, but filling out the form and our communication with the company was no problem. And their prompt and courteous response to our request for a refund speaks to their professionalism. We will definitely come back to ask for their help in procuring tickets to the Studio Ghibli Museum when we do finally make it to Japan! Fingers crossed for next summer.

9. Old Town Tokyo: Shinagawa-Juku Walking Tour

Kitashinagawa Station, 1 Chome-1 Kitashinagawa, Shinagawa City, Tokyo 140-0001, Japan OMAKASE

Be transported back to the Edo period (1603-1868) in this three hour guided tour around Shinagawa's old town. This tour is good for people travelling to/from Haneda Airport, or people interested in seeing a historical and peaceful part of Tokyo. Kita-Shinagawa used to be a thriving post-town, or checkpoint station on the Old Tokaido Road, an ancient road that connected Tokyo with Kyoto. Weary travellers would stop there for rest, replenishment and entertainment. Although most of Shinagawa is now an extremely modern business district, this old town area maintains its historic charm and you can see many original buildings and stores with a history dating back hundreds of years. The area is also full of shrines, each with its own story to tell. If you want to explore a historical part of Tokyo without being bothered by other tourists, this tour is ideal, as this area is not at all touristic.

Inclusions: Coffee and/or Tea, English speaking guide

Exclusions: Lunch, Transport fees, Hotel pickup
