What to do and see in Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu, Kanto: The Best Classes & Workshops

May 19, 2021 Carley Gatson

Tradition collides with pop culture in Tokyo, where you can reverently wander ancient temples before rocking out at a karaoke bar. Wake up before the sun to catch the lively fish auction at the Tsukiji Market, then refresh with a walk beneath the cherry blossom trees that line the Sumida River. Spend some time in the beautiful East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, then brush up on your Japanese history at the Edo-Tokyo Museum. Don’t forget to eat as much sushi, udon noodles, and wagashi (Japanese sweets) as your belly can handle.

Emi's kitchen

I teach Japanese home-style and sushi making classes for non-Japanese at my place, Nerima. You can learn Teishoku style, 1 main dish, 1 side dish, miso soup and rice. I use Japanese original ingredients like myoga or shiso. Yakitori-don, gyoza dumplings, fried salmon with seaweed are very popular, handmade udon noodles with shrimp tempura are also on menu for home cooking class. Japanese dessert includes in home cooking class. Sushi class includes 3 kinds of sushi (temari, nigiri and gunkan-maki), miso soup and Japanese omelette. *Temari zushi is ball-shaped sushi with a topping of fresh seafood or vegetables. Nigiri zushi is hand-formed sushi with a topping of seafood, etc. Another name of gunkan-maki is battle ship roll. If you request Japanese sake, JPY 700 per person. My cooking class is for 2-3 people. Let's enjoy cooking, talking and learn difference about culture!
