Sheringham Museum at the Mo

Reviewed By Bunhunter

It was almost by chance that we visited the 'Mo' as my wife who is interested in local folk art noticed there was an exhibition of the same on display. The whole museum is excellent covering the history of the town and how it changed from a sleepy coastal fishing village to the coming of the railway in the We visited the "Mo' almost by accident as my wife noticed there was an exhibition of folk art on display and so we went in and found the whole museum excellent. Beautifully set out with very friendly staff, it told how the town changed from a sleepy coastal fishing community to catering for tourists with the coming of the railway in the 1880s Also what we found fascinating was the artists, writers, photographers and musicians who either visited Sheringham over the years or made the place their home. Whilst you are there do climb up to the viewing tower and I also found the offshore wind farm information very interesting. A must visit for both young and old and nearly forgot we had a chat with their resident artist which made the icing on the cake for us. Brilliant!

Peter Coke Shell Gallery

The Shell Gallery is temporarily closed. Normally run by volunteers, the gallery is beautiful and has some sublime pieces of work it will only take 5-10 minutes to look round but is located in a beautiful town right on a beautiful beach and seafront and is more than worth seeing whilst you enjoy the rest of the beauty of Sheringham which this only adds to!

Reviewed By HBB85 - West Sussex, United Kingdom

The shell gallery is situated between the town and the seafront, with car parking a short walk away. The gallery itself is a single room displaying a lifetime's work - which has been thoughtfully displayed in mirrored cabinets - and Coke's workshop in the corner, arranged as he left it. Entry is free but do make a donation towards its upkeep if you can. The gallery is run by friendly volunteers who will give you a leaflet about Peter Coke and his work and chat further if you so wish. We stayed about 15 or 20 minutes to take in all the intricate detail. It's great that the gallery has survived; many of the shell gardens of the 1970s/1980s are long since demolished. Coke's work is so ornate, it must have been a labour of love just searching for so many of the same type of shell! The detail is minuscule, so look closely. There are too many designs to name, all equally impressive. Everyone will have a favourite piece!

Sheringham Golf Club

A nice, welcoming warm atmosphere when you first arrive. A friendly and knowledgeable pro in the pro shop on hand to let you know of course conditions. The course itself is fantastic, each hole has its own character. When we played it, they were doing some renovations to bunkers on the first hole which did not make for a pretty sight however we were informed by both members of staff and golfers alike that this was not usually the case and was reassured that the rest of the course was in good condition! It was almost as if they were embarrassed to have the first hole looking like it was however the works were necessary. The clubhouse has a classic links golf feel, with bar staff on hand and simple, good quality food and drinks for after the round. Have been twice already and can't wait to go back next time! Beautiful golf club.
