The Documentation Centre for the victims of the dictatorships in Germany is part of the National Agency for Civic Education in Mecklenburg Western Pomerania and was opened in 2001. The thematic focus of the Documentations Centre is to document the history of political persecution in the region. There is a three-part permanent exhibition showing on each floor of the former prison building the different dimension of judicial and extrajudicial persecution: 1.) Justice and terror under the Nazis in Mecklenburg (1933–1945) 2.) Justice and occupying arbitrariness in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (1945–1953) 3.) State Security and justice in the north of the GDR (1949–1989) Guided tours and study days will be arranged by appointment (minimum number of participants 10 and more).

We did a little detour on our way to Hamburg from Berlin to visit this Castle. So well worth it! Amazing! I have seen most of the Bavarian castles and this is on the same level. Definitely well worth the trip to Schwerin. The castle is about a 10 minute walk from the train station. Very well maintained Castle and grounds. The photos we took were sensational.

The Hercules statue is a work of art. It’s location is amazing, at the premises of the castle, overlooking the gorgeous lake. It’s a place worth visiting if you are in this gorgeous town.
