Kontiland is a theme park dedicated to Sicily. Here you can find about 50 different reproductions of the most famous monuments of our island, positioned in their real place inside a line that represents the confines of Sicily. This church is the stand out attraction in Savoca. It is about a 10 minute walk up a hillside (there is also a guy who drives a small train vehicle and shuttles tourists up and down). It is very scenic, perched above the town. It is also famous as being the site of the wedding scene between Michael and Appollonia in the movie the The Godfather. A donation of 1 euro ie requested to go inside. Modest dress (covered shoulders and knees) is necessary.

We drove to Savoca from Gioiosa Mareara. A beautiful journey through many towns and amazing sea views from roads overlooking the sea. Bar Vitelli is an old bar with lots of character....and lovely beer and food. They have many memorabilia from the filming of The Godfather and you can catch your breath at the amazing views all around, you can even see Mount Etna in the very distance.

The Crypt in the Convent of Capuchins Monks of Savoca was built in the '600s. Inside it there is the ancient burial with niches and desicatted corpes. They were all rich people, from the high society of the city: doctors, lawyers, abbots, poets, because it was symbol of prestige for the whole family.
A lovely little church with great views of the beautiful countryside. The crypt is fascinating and recommend you visit it – obviously there is no photography. They are free to go in, although there was a man taking “voluntary” contributions at the entrance to the crypt! Definitely worth a visit.
