Charming Savannah is the picture of antebellum hospitality, thanks to period architecture and oak-lined streets. It’s tempting to spend your trip just relaxing on vast verandas and sipping mint juleps, but there are plenty of historical sites and museums to explore. Haunting (and possibly haunted) Bonaventure Cemetery is one of the hallmarks of the city, featuring beautiful obelisks, masses of flowers, and ivy-covered crypts. Dine on fresh seafood and creamy grits for a taste of Savannah home cooking.

I enjoy reading medieval mysteries. The characters commonly drink wine, ale - and mead. Since we last visited Savannah’s River Street new shops have been added. A retail outlet for the Savannah Bee Company is one of them. Staffed by friendly and knowledgeable staff, they have an extraordinary selection of honey-based products for sale. One of the product lines is mead. I didn’t know that mead was made from fermented honey. I learned that and had a chance to try samples at a tasting they offer. Entertaining and fun!

I wandered into The Spice and Tea Exchange in order to find tea gifts. I was lucky enough to have Andy come up to me and listen to my woes about my not knowing anything about tea. As it turns out, Andy is the owner! He gently explained various tea varieties to me, and he helped me find the perfect teas for my gift recipients! There are hundreds of spices, teas, and utensils just waiting for the right customer! Truly something for everyone, and I'm happy to have this little treasure trove nearby!

A gem of a store! We were impressed by how much quality jewelry was packed into this small store, and by the salesman (forgot his name) who encouraged us to try on any of the jewely that caught our interest. He was quite knowledgeable about the artists, too. I was really surprised to see that they carried Holly Yashi, a famous jeweler from California. Yes, we spent some $$ and now we have lovely jewelry that will remind us of a lovely long weekend in Savannah. All in all, a highlight for 2 sisters shopping in Savannah.
