Borgarsyssel Museum holds an extensive collection of artifacts and old objects from different periods of time. In addition there are about 20 old buildings showing ostfold's history from medieval to present time. The museum was built in 1924 and is situated at the ruins of Nikolas Church from 1115.
Very interesting exhibition on Sarpsborg's history, from the Viking Age (and even earlier) to date. Great overview of the town from the tower. Furthermore, the "1000-year path" leads you through centuries of industrial history related to the great waterfall of the river Glomma.
