Although we arrived in a downpour, the staff showed us a dry place to stand then, as soon as the shower ended, showed us the various stages of the butterfly lifecycle, and much more information concerning the camoflage and protective patterns on the insects. Very interesting. Small and very much one-on-one.

Beautiful gardens and well maintained trails. The temperature was quite comfortable. There are areas to picnic, a children's playground, benches for resting, and restrooms halfway through. Be sure to carry your lunch, take your camera, and wear comfortable shoes. This is the type of place where you can relax and see something different on each visit. Most of the plants have signage so that you know what you are looking at. It is also attached to a gigantic plant nursery, which is a trip on its own. If you are in Sarchi, this is a must do.

I was initially concerned that this would be a tourist trap with pressure to buy and little useful information provided, but it was just the opposite. Very interesting tour, and no pressure at all; they even offered fresh fruit and drinks. What was particularly impressive is that they are using almost exclusively water-powered machinery to make the carts and cart wheels – and it seems to be almost 100 years old. Fascinating to see how the water wheel powers all of the equipment, and you get to see it in operation. Really enjoyed the tour, and they are certainly proud of what they do, and they do it very well. There is of course a shop where all sorts of items are available, of very good quality, but, like much in Costa Rica, the prices are quite similar to US prices. Also check out the largest oxcart in the world (in Guinness Book of Records), about a 10 minute walk away, in the center of town, close to the church - painted just as the ones in this factory.

We are Costa Rica's largest handicraft and furniture market. We give typical painting classes in our souvenir workshop. You can also visit La Finca Restaurant and Butterfly Farm.
This is a decades old traditional souvenir shop run by a cooperative. This means that the proceeds are distributed among the members which means you are helping the locals in a more equally way than shopping at a privately owned business. You can find most of the souvenirs you can imagine, ranging from wine bottle stands to refrigerator magnets, and locally produced coffee (Naranjo’s) that by the way has earned lots of prizes on coffee expos and conventions internationally speaking. If you are purchasing a large amount, they will be happy to apply some discount. Visit one the most unique Church temples in Costa Rica, located near here and pay this place a visit! You won’t regret it!

This church is beautiful. It is a must see even for a few minutes. It is in the center of town so there is an excitement in the air. Across the street is the park which I love to visit and just sit on the benches. There is HUGE Costa Rican Ox Cart in the park and at night the enclosure is lit up with multi-colored lights. It is a special place in a special country.

Though the town is small and the park where this is located is small, you can park on either side of the park and take pictures with this gigantic Carreta, beautifully painted according to the Costa Rican themes, flowers and other symbols. During some weekends, you can even see fairs, where you can buy local produce. During Lent, there are religious events but during the pandemic, things might be simpler. You can also admire the Church building that is very unique among the Church architectural styles found in CR.
