Silvio took good care of us as we went to Tarrafal (with couple stops on the way), and separate trip to Cidade Velha. Our driver Luis was cab driver in Boston and talks good English, and was very attentive to our needs and wishes. We had some as we have a baby. Silvio is a good and active communicator, and very precise. Luis was very timely and professional at all times. He didnt seem in a hurry, and even suggested some extra things to do - stop to see a small monkey was a fun bonus. There may be other operators that are cheaper, but we recevied good value for money with Silvio. Cheaper than renting a car, and individualized service. No need to hesitate choosing Silvio - good and trustworthy service.

Starting our trip from Praia. First stop is São Jorge dos Órgãos where we attend a couscous workshop at Dona Luiza's place. Here you get the opportunity in the making and tasting of a traditional Cape Verdean breakfast. There will be no shortage of couscous, fidjoz, coffee of Fogo Island and traditional dish cachupa. After, we continue towards Assomada (formerly Santa Catarina), visit the city centre and the famous street market on Wednesdays & Saturdays, the largest and most popular market in Santiago. After a short stroll through the city, we continue our journey to Tarrafal, with a brief stop in Serra Malagueta Natural Park. Visit the former Tarrafal concentration camp, actual Resistance Museum, a must-see landmark of the islands. After a stroll through the village of Tarrafal you have free time to bathe at the most beautiful beach of Santiago Island. We then have lunch at Buzios restaurant, a truly traditional restaurant, where we can enjoy a variety of fish of the day or meat dishes. Finally, we return to the city of Praia via the coast with main stops in Calheta de São Miguel and Pedra Badejo, not forgetting the opportunity to take pictures in the Valley of the Thousand Palms Santa Cruz.

Inclusions: Main dish, dessert, tea or coffee.

What a day well spent! Definitely one of the highlights of my trip in Cape Verde. From start to finish everything was perfectly organized between the two islands. The enthusiasm and friendliness of the guides to make me discover the best part of Santo Antao was amazing. We had such a good time as well as a delicious lunch. The island is stunning and my only regret was not to have spent more time there. Next time ! If you are in Sao Vicente, don’t be put off by the ferry ride (it was ok), you won’t regret it.

We met Nelson after meeting another tourist in Praia, who recommended us to ask Nelson if we ever needed anything during our stay. Nelson drove us from Praia to Tarrafal the next day, while showing us great spots along the way and telling us about local culture. He speaks great English and we felt very safe with him, the car was very clean and all measures were taken in regards to COVID. He was a very friendly and thoughtful person and we will not hesitate to call him next time we are in town!

Come see Santiago's Old Town, which is the birthplace of Cape Verdeanity. It is also the toponym of what was once the old city of Ribeira Grande, which was the capital of the Cape Verde archipelago for some centuries. It was the first city that the Portuguese had in Africa, in their adventure of discoveries. Hence it is a mandatory reference in the historical context of the islands of Cape Verde. Only the ruins that sadly lean over the archipelago's eternal blue sea remain, and they sleep under the weight of years of men's oblivion, and their visit had a driver with years of experience who will ensure that their journey is of quality, comfort and safety. .

Im this tour we gonna anderstand the history of cape verd, and see the beatifull constrution build by portuguese im century 14. The island of Santiago was discovered by António da Noli, a Genoese in Portuguese service, in 1460. Da Noli settled at Ribeira Grande with his family members and Portuguese from Algarve and Alentejo in 1462. The settling conditions were good due to the abundance of water from the river Ribeira Grande, which gave it an advantage over the other settlement on Santiago, Alcatrazes. The settlement became a key port of call for Portuguese colonisation towards Africa and South America. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was a centre of maritime trade between Africa, the Cape, Brazil and the Caribbean. Due to its proximity to the African coast, it was an essential platform for the trade of enslaved persons.
