Winsor Trail

Minutes from downtown Santa Fe, a world-class mountain biking and hiking trail with dramatic elevation gain.

This trail begins at the pull aside just next to the Santa Fe Ski Area parking lot. You begin ascending a fairly rocky and technical section that continuously zigzags for 1.5 mille before crossing into a forest road. After the road crossing, the trail becomes less technical and faster. You'll come to several trail junctions on the way down, just stay to the right at all junctions. The landscape is full of pine trees full of moss. Altitude is above 10,000 feet so you do need some time to get acclimated/ Lower down, the trail crosses back and forth over Tesuque Creek several times before dumping out onto a private dirt road. The trail continues in and out of the road before ending on the pavement. After the trail ends, you can continue down until an intersection with Bishops Lodge Road, where you'll turn right. in about a mile and a half you'll come to Tesuque Village Market.

Atalaya Mountain Hiking Trail

This is a challenging and beautiful hike that is very worth the effort to complete it. It is very close to town so you will get views of Santa Fe, Saint John's College and walk by some beautiful homes. Some sections are very steep and the trail is a bit rocky. The trail starts in the 'upper' parking lot of Saint John's College. There are signs on the road before the parking lot but they are often hidden by tree foliage. We've hiked this trail in all seasons (when snow is no longer on the trail) and in the hotter months, it's best to start early in the morning. One July, it was 100 degrees when we reached midway up! When we got to the top it was much cooler. On our most recent visit (Sept 2019) there was a beautiful sunset (photo attached). Bring lots of water and enjoy the views! (you will be proud of yourself when you complete it!)

Conveniently located just outside of the city near canyon road. I really enjoyed the challenge of biking on these trails. If you are from lower elevations like me just be aware that the air can be thinner and you become short of breath sooner than you think like I did. I would rate these trails highly for hiking and biking (more for those with at least an intermediate skill level). Great views of the National Forest.

Aspen Vista Trail

Aspen Vista Trail, in the fall one of the most beautiful places in the S Fe area. It can be confused w/ Hyde STATE park, not too far away, YET you cannot get here from there! There is a multi-mile trail(starting @ 10k feet) that takes you all the way up to the ski area if you were so inclined. The trail is generously wide, the views are astonishing. You can snowshoe, hike, take pics, use the WC

Great place to take a hike the trail is wider than a car. Beautiful view of changing foliage. Level enough for those of us with problems walking on uneven surfaces. There are several smaller hiking paths near restrooms. Great for pictures.
