Izalco Volcano

Reviewed By GeoBeetles

As globetrotters who intend to be the planet’s first family to travel to all 196 countries, Volcán de Izalco, near Santa Ana, El Salvador, was a must-see. This is because in this nation, this stratovolcano is an iconic one, even featured on Salvadoran currency. Wikipedia tells me that the volcano erupted continuously from 1770 to 1958. However, even though there weren't any more eruptions since 1966, I did discover fumes and smoke bellowing out from several places. Unfortunately, we became ill right before our journey to the top, which by any means, is extremely strenuous. So we flew our drone instead, and thankfully, we were able to capture all that without laying a foot on the volcano itself. Thanks, DJI! It's truly a globetrotter's dream come true!

Finca La Esperanza Coffee Tour

Reviewed By shazausa

With the sole purpose of our visit being to climb the Santa Ana volcano, Finca La Esperanza Coffee Tour was a pleasantly surprising highlight of our time in El Salvador. Situated on the fertile slopes of the volcano, this coffee farm is operated by Eduardo and Bruno, two of the kindest men you'll ever meet. When greeted at our hotel and driven in the back of their pickup truck, we knew we were in for a unique experience. Eduardo provided an excellent English explanation of coffee growth, the business behind it, and his family tradition. He showcased his farm of several acres, including the numerous varieties and ages of coffee plants, his fruits, and beautiful flowers and birds. Meanwhile, Bruno captured the moment on his camera and a link to view the photos was sent via email. Afterwards, a table was prepared for us to enjoy his freshly ground coffee and local baked goods. We purchased coffee to share with our friends back home and appreciate the backbreaking labor required to produce it. Prior to our trip, we were apprehensive about our safety while in El Salvador. Eduardo and Bruno, however, have affirmed our belief that there are many good people in this world. Above all else, Eduardo's coffee, his passion, and sense of friendship transcend our differences as humans. If you are planning to visit El Salvador, you will not regret it, and this coffee tour is a must-do.

National Park Cerro Verde

We came on a Saturday on December 21 with Salvadorean Tours. We got there at 10 am and there were plenty of people arriving already. We stayed for 1 hour and by the time we left, the parking lot was full. Our guide asked a local guide to join us on a loop walk where we went up 2 platforms to see the lagoon. That walk took 50 minutes but at a very leisurely pace. You do have to walk in the forest. We had great views on the platforms and the weather was nice.

Santa Ana Cathedral

Reviewed By tganuza - Chandler, United States

My husband and I have figured out that the most wonderful place to visit are the local Catholic Churches, specially in Latin countries! The rich history of the place is found in the architecture and artwork that has been preserved in the building. That said, the Catedral has a beautiful gothic decor and is surrounded by great Spanish architecture in the houses around!

Went to a Latino 80's replay and the crowd was totally into it singing along, the show was entertaining. BUT the theater was incredible! The classic design, great acoustics, and the domed roof with amazing art! It is worth travelling to Sta Ana just for this. As it is right on the Central Park an afternoon or evening just being there with the locals is enchanting. I was fortunate enough to catch the 1st annual Pupuseada. See ya next year!
