While many visitors come for the beaches, arts celebrations and fiestas, San Sebastian-Donostia is serious about its food and drink. The Old Quarter’s narrow, winding streets are full of bars and restaurants, and in the modern city, sidewalk cafes are all around. The city specializes in seafood. Just make sure you know not to expect dinner at 6 or 7 p.m.—that’s much too early in Spain. Instead, tide yourself over with tapas, and enjoy eating and drinking late into the night.

A modern iron sculpture by Eduardo Chillida embedded in the rocks at the water's edge.
A romantic place where the waves of the sea, iron, stone, wind and sculpture originality come together. A nice walk by the sea.

Highly recommend this if visiting the San Sebastian area. It's a nice walk to the top with superb views across both sides of San Sebastian. Overall walk takes maybe an hour from top to bottom at a leisurely pace. Take some water if the weather is warm as it can be tough is some parts

La Concha Beach in San Sebastian, Spain is the best urban beach in Europe. Elegant, urban, cosmopolitan, white sand, crystal clear waters and lush hillsides makes La Concha the best urban beach in Europe and one of the most beautiful in the world. By the way San Sebastian is considered the most beautiful city in the world alongside Seville.

Wander the old town and lose yourself amongst the narrow streets, with so many restaurants/bars to stop at for refreshment and so many sites to see and explore.

We had a lovely time walking around the museum and really enjoyed the Temporary Exhibition of Sandro Miller, Malkovich, Homage to Photographic Masters which is on in November. Every Tuesday the museum has free entry.

The name of this place says it all 'Miramar' Palace, it certainly looks onto the sea, and what incredible view! It's the former summer residence of the Spanish queen Maria Cristina who spent her summers here for 40 years. It currently hosts the University Summer Courses and other special events. During the summer it opens at weekends for visits. In any case, it's worth just popping in for a stroll on the grounds and gardens to enjoy the magnificent views of the Concha bay.

We went up the hill of monte igueldo just by chance with a rented car while trying to find a parking spot at the Concha Bay at dawn. When we got to the top, we were charged 2,5 euros per person to pass. We were surprised by the breathtaking views ( the best views from San Sebastian, by far!)... and this small old fashioned amuzement park with a misterious river, bumping cars, a maze, a horror house and a roller coaster among other things, all with great views of the bay.. it was a blast for our kids. Between 2 and 2,50 per person a ride. There were some spots to get snacks and a cafeteria.

A well thought after, logical thematical route through the sea-life, the history of merchandising and fishing on sea, and the aquariums, types of fish and sea creatures all around with nice architecture, look-throughs, links, and accents. In bad weather or if one spends more days in San Sebastian it is a must see.

We didn't linger long but passed through the space to experience it. Very unique in that you can still see the numbers for each balcony when it was a public bullring. Even if you lived in one of the apartments, you were obligated to allow others to use your balcony during an event! There were pintxos bars in the space with tables to sit and watch the world go by, but we had already eaten. Maybe next time we'd stop and sit down for some Sangria.
