San Pedro Cholula is a municipality in the Mexican state of Puebla and one of two municipalities which made up the city of Cholula. The city has been divided into two sections since the pre Hispanic era, when revolting Toltec-Chichimecas pushed the formerly dominant Olmec-Xicallanca to the eastern side of the city in the 13th century. The new lords called themselves Cholutecas and built a new temple to Quetzalcoatl on the San Pedro side, which eventually eclipsed the formerly prominent Great Pyramid of Cholula, now on the San Andrés side. When the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, the city of Cholula was an important religious and economic center, but the center of power was on the San Pedro side, centered on what is now the main city plaza and the San Gabriel monastery. The division of the city persisted and San Pedro remained the more dominant, with Spanish families moving onto that side and the rest of the population quickly becoming mestizo. Today, San Pedro is still more commercial and less residential than neighboring San Andrés with most of its population employed in industry, commerce and services rather than agriculture. Although Cholula's main tourist attraction, the Pyramid, is in San Andrés, San Pedro has more tourism infrastructure such as hotels, restaurants and bars.

We booked this tour based on it's itinerary and reviews. We do enjoy an occasional private tour. We were picked up on time at our hotel. Veronica was our guide and was amazing. We went to a flower market before getting on the floating boat. The ride was lovely. Veronica told us a lot about the city it's history and culture. We went to the Diego Rivera museum which is amazing. Then to the Coyocan market where we grabbed a bite to eat and have some free time. Then the Frida Kahlo museum which is a must see. The driver was excellent, smoothly guiding us around the city. We also stopped at the University which wads fascinating. Veronica is very proud of her city and it shows. Her energy and enthusiasm were palpable. The price for what you get is a real bargain. Highly recommend

If you are fluent in Spanish, the bus tour cost is very reasonable and there is much information given during the bus ride to and from Cholula and at the locations. However, we requested an English guide and the cost more than tripled. This was still fine, as we did learn a great deal from our knowledgeable guide. The guide who was booked for us forgot about the tour and the Tip team quickly found us a replacement guide. We appreciate his willingness to join us in Cholula at the last minute. Because of this, we missed all the commentary given during the bus rides. Once we joined Jose Louis in Cholula, he gave us great attention at all the stops. He is very knowledgeable and he is also a friendly and pleasant person. Because the lineup to go inside the pyramid was so long, we chose to spend the time viewing the pyramid ruins and also to first tour the small museum, near the entrance to the tunnel, which explains a great deal about the pyramid and tunnels. We also lucked into some indigenous dancers and music makers, dressed in their feathered, finery. It was wonderful! We missed walking to the top of the pyramid to see the views and the lovely church on the top. We simply did not have enough time. We did see the flyers in the Cholula square and that truly is a sight to see! We decided to return to Cholula on our own early one morning to climb the pyramid and tour the tunnel and we're very glad that we did!

Two cities that keep the fundamental history of Mexico, full of memories and culture. Beginning in the city of Puebla, as first Spanish city of the sixteenth century, which in its streets, architecture and gastronomy it shows the crossbreeding of two cultures. In our tour, we show more attractions. Full of magic and history that covers from the beginning of the planning of a city perfect made by the Angels to the modernity of a declared city cultural heritage since 1987, which fill any visitor with emotion. Our second point is the ancient city of Cholula, dazzling us with the history of our ancestors, an olmec group xicalanca, who made the base piramidal largest in the world. Cholula is considered the oldest city in America. Here is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Remedies, the church with domes covered with tiles that the Spaniards built in the 16th century. They placed it just above the Great Pyramid, the basement that looks more like an archaeological site. The days go down and come, the people, the life. Can you imagine in the largest pyramid in the world? It is possible and is in Cholula the oldest town in Latin America, we will visit the archaeological zone, its churches and we will taste liqueurs and rompopes.

I cannot recommend my tour guide Pepe enough. I ended up getting a private tour as the rest of the group canceled. Despite the small group, Pepe was enthusiastic the whole trip and I was able to learn so much from him. Unfortunately, much of the park was closed (cannot climb either pyramid at the moment) but Pepe made an effort to describe what I couldn't see.
