San Marino is a beautiful place to visit with great views and a lot of history. I would recommend a visit with children, as it is quite picturesque and fairy tale like. It is pretty hilly, so keep this in mind. I found visiting the attractions super cheap as well.

Centro Storico Di San Marino

Reviewed By T-SGlobetrotters - Preston, United Kingdom

We stayed overnight in San Marino and reached the old town by bus from Rimini late afternoon. The bus stop is opposite Rimini rail station near Burger King. Tickets €5 each way can be purchased at the tobacconist’s adjacent to BK. Recommend buying your return ticket at the same time although it is possible to buy tickets from the driver in cash. There are regular buses through the day (timetable attached). Luggage is stored under the bus and the journey takes around an hour. We stayed at Hotel Rosa which we can highly recommend. The benefit if staying overnight is the ability to enjoy the old town after all the day trippers and tour groups have departedand everything is much quieter. Views across the valley are splendid, as indeed are sites in the town itself where wandering around particularly in the evening and early morning is a real pleasure. The three towers are easily reached on foot and most of the old town is pedestrianised and while some of the inclines are quite steep, it is all very manageable and all the roads and building are immaculate state of repair. There are numerous restaurants to choose from. Although we are not big shoppers, there are many shops to browse for those inclined. San Marino exceeded our expectations and we did not regret taking to time to travel there even if it is just for one night.

Tourism Office of San Marino

Reviewed By Anshita_S - Boston, United States

The office is located at the main square next to the Cable Car that you can take to the town of Borgo Maggiore. The people who work there are super nice and helpful. We visited San Marino in April and we went there just before they closed , so there was literally no line. They will stamp your passport for Euro 5 cash only. For those of you who collect coins like my husband, you can even get San Marino Euro there.

The cable car offers spectacular views while you travel up to the city of San Marino. The cable cars are large enough for big groups. The ride to the top is short and not scary at all. We arrived by tour bus so parking was not an issue.

Passo Delle Streghe

Reviewed By asiyahnoemik - Pula, Croatia

Passo delle streghe is an interesting narrow passage on the slope on the San Marino Crest along a narrow and steep path between the first (Torre Guaita) and the second ( Cesta Torre) tower. The sunset seen from the this place is amazing, the passage of the witches ( passo delle streghe ) can prove really suggestive. This intresting place symbolizes the charm of the ancient city in the our hearts. The view of the valley and Rimini from this place is breathtaking. It was named after the strange phenomena that occurred in the passage between the towers. It is said that in the Middle Ages witches gathered here to practice their magic rituals. Legend has it that the witches used to gather here during the nights and that at the first light of the morning they turned into black cats that fled in all directions. For this reason the inhabitants of the vicinity were usual to chase away the black cats, because they would have been nothing other than the harmless witches.

Statua della Liberta

Reviewed By Borzov - Rijeka, Croatia

The neoclassical statue, made of white Carrara marble, was designed by Stefano Galletti in the second half of the 19th century. It is symbolizing freedom which is represented as a female warrior, proudly advancing while holding the flag in the left hand. Her crown with three towers represents the city of San Marino. The elegant and majestic monument is a central spot of the square with the same name.
