With its gondolas, canals, amazing restaurants, and unforgettable romantic ambiance, Venice is definitely a city for one's bucket list. Waterfront palazzos, palaces, and churches make drifting down the Grand Canal feel like cruising through a painting. To really experience Venice you must go to the opera or to a classical music performance, nibble fresh pasta and pastries, and linger in the exhibit halls of an art gallery. Label lovers will drool over the high-end shopping in Piazza San Marco.

These two wonderful columns seems to symbolize the door of majestic square of San Marco . The column of San Marco with its winged lion symbol of Serenissima and the column of San Teodoro depicted to kill a dragon . They are here since medieval period.

Unless you know what the Four Tetrachs are, you will either miss this, or see it in the background of one of your pictures. You will pass it if you want to gaze at The Giants Staircase without going into the Doge's Palace. Interesting statuary and has a great history behind it. I liked that you are able to get right up to it without a lot of intervening barricades.

Dominating the center of Campo San Bartolomeo is the famous bronze statue of Carlo Goldoni. It was created in 1883 by the sculptor A. Dal Zotto. We just loved his jovial swagger. Most tourists probably don’t even see the statue or know why it is here. Carlo Goldoni lived in the 1700’s and was an Italian playwright and librettist (author of words to be set to music in an opera or operetta). His works include some of Italy's most famous and best-loved plays.

Nicolo Tommaseo is remembered and his statue is not torn down. A believer in Italian nationalism who loved his country, this is a visited statue. A believer in the Greek Revolution of 1821, he lost his journal in 1830 and was exiled from his country. This is a great man
