San Gabriel is a city in Los Angeles County, California. It is named after the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel (which in turn was named for Archangel Gabriel), founded by Junípero Serra. The city grew outward from the mission and in 1852 became the original township of Los Angeles County. San Gabriel was incorporated in 1913. The city's motto is "A city with a Mission" and it is often called the "Birthplace" of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. At the 2010 census, the population was 39,718.

Vincent Lugo Park, located at the corner of Wells & Ramona Streets, is the city's largest park and recreation resource. Recent construction improvements have enhanced the park's open space. Enjoy the fresh air and open space at Vincent Lugo Park! This beautiful park is home to La Laguna de San Gabriel, also known as Dinosaur Park, which has been named one of nine of America's coolest playgrounds!
Named after the last parks supervisor, Vincent Lugo Park is a beautiful oasis in the city. A lot of shrubs, vines, and trees that are indigenous to the Alhambra wash were planted and maintained. It has a well used dirt walking trail that is well used. For adults wanting to stay in shape, they have different types of equipment to strengthen arms, legs, and midsection. While these are not powered, some even offer limited cardio building capabilities. They have at least two public restrooms and working drinking fountains. Children playground equipment also exists. Finally, a baseball field with backstop, scoreboard and lights exists. At 191' to the right and left sidelines, it is suitable for high school or little league. This is a clean park that is well maintained. I was surprised not to see any homeless here.

Mission founded in 1771 by Father Junipero Serra, originally from Cordova, Spain, who wanted to share his religious faith with the inhabitants of the New World.
We (I brought my 1 year old) visited the mission while we were visiting Pasadena. It’s the 3rd one I’ve had the pleasure of exploring. It is peaceful, beautiful, and there is so much history on display . I’ve been to San Juan Capistrano and Mission San Fernando Rey de España. This one had a couple of surprises history wise that really delighted me. The Ramona grape vine was inspiring and a lovely reminder of the incredible history of this mission. The info about the orange trees originally planted there was cool too! This is a really great place to explore for an hour-hour and a half.
