This church its one of the most important churches in the North of Argentina. Its the main pilgrimage for the Holy Virgin of the Valley, and get really crowded at the beginning of December during the day of the Virgin.
Architectonically, its a massive church with a beautiful design, lovely windows and a small but religiously important museum. Its just in front of the main square, open almost the entire day, so if you are around there is no excuse to pay a little visit the Cathedral.

This Park started has a most interesting history beginning which it has carried forth into today. Stirred by the Sugar production of this area which still exist in force, the inspiration for its birth had it beginning therein. Central Park in NY can hardly come close to this Park in its size of some 250 acres..100 or so hectares. There is so much of historic relevance you need have a go a Wikipedia to fill in what a review such as this cannot capture. Rather than snap pics of the various items of highlight we saw in a small walkabout I opted for a varying of the light across one small part as the sun set. Stop by anytime of the day though in the evening folks gather in various numbers to enjoy the space. A Brilliant Idea of the mothers and fathers of year ago!

This is not your glossy museum we see so often rather a very straightforward presentation in 'timeline fashion' of the Very Early history of South America, epoc by epoc. There are some rough edges as it were but that for me was overshadowed by the simplicity of the display, each containing exquisite object found by archaeologists. These displays cover specific aspects of humanity's struggle and evolution from stone to clay to metal. Overall a Great place to view where consciousness was and where it now finds itself on its evolutionary path back home,

We walked 1 block east from our Amerian Catamarca Park Hotel to this free museum. The encircling 8 rooms are filled with historical information and tributes to 'The Virgin of the Valley', providing the scale of the veneration people of this area have had for this miracle, including the glorifying silver medallions and jeweled crowns.

One of the locations we wanted to visit while in Catamarca. Being an almost direct 10 minutes walk out the front door of our hotel made it all the more inviting. Some interesting fabric, local produce in the jams and olive oils, hooked painting, awesome works of art using metal, wine, jewellery, plaster et veteran. Worthy of a visit .... prices are very reasonable for object selling.

Well worth a visit to catch up on the early history and growth of Catamarca, nothing is forgotten not even the Church. Free entry and lots of pic and descriptions... you need some knowledge of Spanish to read same. Caravati played a key role in the beautiful Cathedral opposite the Plaza and the building of the city.
