What to do and see in San Antonio, Texas (TX): The Best Traveler Resources

October 22, 2021 Tambra Mccollister

Step to the beat of wafting flamenco music as you wander the downtown River Walk before sampling as much chili (San Antonio’s signature dish) as your taste buds will allow. A visit to the Alamo is an absolute must, as is taking in a show at the ornate Majestic Theatre. San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is dotted with 18th-century buildings and features, making for an enriching excursion.

San Antonio Central Library

You may not want to read a book, but a visit to the library is worth just to see the Chihuly blown glass sculpture in San Antonio's downtown library. Just walk in the main door and look up. It reminds me of the confetti flying out of a cascarón (a eggshell stuffed with confetti and cracked over someone's head during Fiesta).

On this our second trip to San Antonio my wife and I went into the Visitor's Center on Alamo Plaza as one of our first stops. We picked up some tourist information and checked out the souvenirs they had. It is a nice sized shop with a helpful staff and plenty of merchandise to take home. Just remember that there are lots of shops to find that special souvenir so you may want to check out the deals at other shops...And then go back to the Visitor's Center. I would recommend the San Antonio Visitor's Center on the Alamo Plaza as a must see first stop for anyone who is visiting for the first time.
