Polimétria and Julio were a highlight to our trip to Salento. My partner, Luka, and I stumbled upon the shop venturing out for dinner one evening. We were astonished by the beautiful ceramics that Julio and his partner had made. From the careful attention to detail to their aesthetically pleasing designs, the designs are unique to anything that you will find on the Main Street of the town. After our initial visit, we intended to revisit the store and purchase some of Polimétria‘s goods for our friends a few days later. We were incredibly sad to learn that we had missed opening hours and the store was closed. In a shot in the dark, we messaged Polimétria via their Instagram account to see if Julio may be in the store. To our absolute surprise, Julio messaged us and offered to open the shop within minutes. When we arrived, Julio met us with a warm welcome and shared details about many of the pieces and the production process. What made the visit extra special was that Julio took the time to have a friendly conversation about his country and the region, which gave us some insight from a local perspective. The customer service was incredible, the ceramics are made with love, and we hope that one day we will be blessed to visit Polimétria again. If you are in Salento or planning a trip to the coffee region, make sure you pay Julio and Polimétria a visit.

Bar Danubio

This place has a long history, for over 100 years it has remained practically unchanged. You can meet the actual owner, a 93-year old man, who sits every day at the table close to the entrance and is still in charge of the Bar. A great place to have a beer or a coffe, with traditional music and meet local people. The Bar is equiped with Pool and Billiard tables. We have recently installed a new section where you can enjoy the traditional colombian games like "Sapo" and "Tejo". Our coffee Machine is Italian and it is the Oldest coffee Machine in town.

Iglesia Nuestra Senora del Carmen

Reviewed By margaretc007 - Bethesda, United States

The church anchors the main square of this very colorful town in the coffee region of Colombia. One can go in and sit in one of the pews for a short prayer. It's peaceful inside. Outside, the square is lined with shops and restaurants. Many of them are painted in rainbow colors. Vendors with their carts sell their goods there. What was irresistible was the Calle Real - one of the most colorful streets found anywhere in the world. The houses are built in the traditional bahareque architecture style (new term for me). Artisanal wares are sold in the stores lining the street, providing retail therapy for some visitors. I loved it.
