Salcombe is a popular resort town in the South Hams district of Devon, south west England. The town is close to the mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary, mostly built on the steep west side of the estuary. It lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The town's extensive waterfront and the naturally sheltered harbour formed by the estuary gave rise to its success as a boat and shipbuilding and sailing port and, in modern times, tourism especially in the form of pleasure sailing and yachting. The town is also home to a traditional shellfish fishing industry. The town is part of the electoral ward of Salcombe and Malborough, for which the 2011 census recorded a total population of 3,353.

Paper Bird Island is a creative paradise situated in the beautiful South Devon coastal town of Salcombe. A space to inspire and encourage the inner child in everyone!
Paper Bird Island is a delight. I feel like my children have grown up coming here as we have come every time we have stayed in Salcombe and that’s for a good few years! We popped in yesterday and Alice recognised us straight away which was lovely. The atmosphere and calm in such a beautifully decorated place is not something that could ever be replicated by a national chain and it’s people like Alice that make Salcombe so special. The price for the items you make is spot on. When you come here you are not only making a beautiful handmade piece but your little ( or big) people are making lovely memories. Alice is on hand to advise and having a cup of tea or coffee and being able to bring your dog too is wonderful. Thankyou Alice - we ll be back next time we are in Salcombe . :)))

Chris was superb as an instructor. With 2 out of 3 of us never having held a gun before, he had his work cut out. It was a present for my husband’s birthday and he thoroughly enjoyed it. My daughter was so pleased with her experience that she did show and tell at school the following Monday! We would 100% recommended every aspect of the experience. - very professional - great fun/ charming instructor - all felt like we learned something with 1 on 1 attention - lovely setting - AMAZING

An incredible ‘experience’ making our own Gin! Welcomed from the start with a Salcombe gin, very knowledgeable distillers helped with finding botanicals and more Salcombe Gin in the middle as well as at the end made the whole gin making experience brilliant! Plus we ended up with a bottle of our own made VERY drinkable gin. Can’t recommend highly enough!

It is easy to overlook this magnificent museum, tucked under the stairs as it is leading up to the Tourist Information Offices in Salcombe in Market Street, one of the steep roads leading down to Fore Street, .... a great pity. It houses a bewildering range of artefacts, mainly associated with the town's shipbuilding past, as well as its schooners used to bring back the first, ripe fruits from the Caribbean and the Mediterranean to market. The faster they could do so, the greater the profits for the owners. Salcombe is also strongly associated with the preparations for the D day landings, as much of the estuary, harbours and creeks were used to construct the craft used in the operation, and this is faithfully reflected in the museum. With all year round access, and free entry, this fascinating museum is a must-see when visiting this lovely town.Allow at least a couple hours.
