Ste. Genevieve's downtown area National Historic Landmark District offers visitors a rare glimpse into a French colonial past. Mixed in with the historic homes and attractions are great restaurants, quaint shops, a candy store, ice cream parlor and winery. Narrow streets and fenced gardens surround some of the most significant 18th Century architecture in America.
We asked for recommendations with a six year old and the staff was so nice, helpful, with good advice. Clean restrooms too.

When my wife & I were walking around Historic Ste. Genevieve last week, a shopkeeper suggested we stop in to see Ste. Genevieve Catholic Church. She noted that the church steeple is visible from just about anywhere in town, so it should be easy to find. She was right on all counts. The current brick church building was opened in 1880, but there were two previous churches built on the property dating as far back as the mid-1700s when French settlers occupied the area. The church now towers (literally) over the town of Ste. Genevieve, but the exterior only gives you a hint of what's inside. The high arched ceilings, the large dome above the sanctuary, the beautiful large stained glass windows, the exquisite statuary & altarpieces, the imposing pipe organ in the back loft, and the high backed wooden choir benches on each side of the main altar all pay tribute to the faith that inspired the church & to the the faithful artisans who built it. Give yourself a half-hour or more to walk around inside (when there's not a Mass or other official activity going on) and to stare & take pictures of the amazing features of this beautiful structure. And be sure to heed the review title from TA member DandLtravel: "Don't Press the Button ... ." We wish we had read that before we arrived, because we were shocked when the recorded narration echoed throughout the church. Thankfully we didn't press that button until the religious education session wrapped up that morning. The recording has a lot of valuable historical information to offer, but there's a far more quiet summary on the historical plaque outside the main church doors.

Owned and operated since 1949 by The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Missouri, the Bolduc House Museum tells the story of New France, the OTHER Colonial America, under the governments of both France and Spain before the Louisiana Purchase. Your experience takes you to three historic houses, including the National Historic Landmark, vertical log, circa 1792 Louis Bolduc House and its 18th century French kitchen garden. You will also explore the stories of French colonial Americans, Shawnee and Delaware Indians, and French African slaves in the oldest town of Missouri. Hear the stories, touch the stuff, sniff the flowers and let your curiosity free here where we make French colonial American history fun!
We stopped at The Centre for French Colonial Life to purchase tickets for a guided tour. $10/person. Sites are well maintained and tour guide did an excellent job even though she said it was her first tour. Very interesting history.

This was a combination winery/brewery that offered some nice selections. We were in the area for a Wedding at a nearby Winery and took advantange of the surroundings. The Beer was great, the wine was good, the view and the location was surprisingly relaxing. We found out as we were relaxing with a drink, that there is a rustic B&B onsite, that was much more local than the 25 minute drive to the hotel next to the highway....we would most definitely have enjoyed staying here on site and waking up to the view and having the beer and wine so local!! The drive in is awesome, off a gravel road that makes you feel like you are way off the beaten path. There were only a few other couples when we were there and it was super enjoyable.

We stopped by ASL Pewter while visiting Sainte Genevieve and fell in love with the shop, the owners and the cats! The owners were so attentive and taught us all about their art and the history of the pieces. Loved the intricate details and the simple beauty of the pewter. This is one place you don't want to miss if you're visiting the town!

My husband and I visited here with our granddaughter and friends this week. The young woman who waited on us was very friendly. The chocolates that we purchased were very good. We stop here whenever we are in town.

This was a first time visiting this location and I can say it was well worth the trip. The staff was very welcoming and engaged in conversation. My colleague and I were on a distillery tour for the day and this was definitely the best start. We did a flight of spirits and beers and came across a pair of whiskies that when blended together were amazing. They mixed a Honey infused whisky with a cocoa infused one and all i can say is wow. Tasted like a hazelnut coffee. The honey one by itself was also more like a dessert rather than a whisky. All in all a great trip across some very scenic back roads. They have a large indoor seating area as well as outdoor seating with live music (was not planned this particular day).

Enjoy views of our vineyard, lake, and beautiful Ste. Genevieve County while trying a variety of wine or craft beer. Deli, Dining, and Full service Banquet/Special Events facility.
We had dinner here last weekend and it was amazing. The food was really special and the steaks divine - the chicken and pasta as well. Took home lots of leftovers and enjoyed the dinner twice. The view over the vineyard and pond was nice.
