Claremont Farms

Directions: From Fig Tree/Andy Roberts Dr. you'll see two large rock columns and in front of those, a small covered garden with a yellow (in Aug) flowered vine. Follow this road through the columns and when the road forks, stay left. This roads curves then runs direct into the farm, recognized by a fence with a large pineapple. Lucy, the dog, will bark to let Grant know of your arrival. Park in front of the house and he'll be right out. If you get lost ask the friendly locals where to find Grant's pineapple farm :) What to expect: - wear closed toe shoes if possible, you'll be walking through ankle-high brush; this is a farm tour - dirt roads to get to the farm, but our mini rental made it - 30 min tour of the farmland - history and farming techniques of the pineapple - Black pineapple, plus mangoes, sweet potatoes, and other trees What exceeded expectations: - beautiful sunset during our tour, we arrived about 5pm - behind the scenes info and history - incredibly beautiful countryside - our tour exceeded 30 min as we enjoyed in depth convo with Grant and his personal history and passions; this was special and not to be expected especially during busy times - fruit to take home!

Valley Church Beach

Reviewed By WanderessM - Mississauga, Canada

After visiting multiple beaches in the area - we kept being drawn to this place. Locals call it "The Nest" based on the name of the restaurant. The beach is not too big and not too small. Soft sand, usually very calm blue water, friendly service, amazing sun sets, cozy restaurant with some authentic local dishes. Two chairs and an umbrella = $20 USD. The beach is long enough to take a walk. There is a little bit of a drop as you enter the water - so may be difficult to get out (the trick is to wait for the wave to help you up). On busy cruise ship days, the crowds arrive by 11 am and it gets noisy and hectic - on the left side of the beach towards the restaurant. However, the right hand side (if facing the beach from the water) is what the locals use, and you can always find a quiet spot. The cruise crowds are usually out by 3 pm and you can have the beach to yourself. On days without the ships it was our perfect secluded piece of paradise with hardly any people. The Nest served some of the best dishes we tried in Antigua - curry conch, coconut shrimp, fish soup, seafood in cream sauce (however, the service may be long - on island time, and on some days conch was perfectly tender while on others super tough). All in all, wonderful beach to enjoy the perfect blue water of Antigua. Miss it already!

We found this to be a quiet area in terms of tourists (although Jolly Harbour is 15 minutes up the road, with everything you could need) and it's pretty and GREAT for snorkellers as there is a reef right there in the bay. I miss it!!

Rum Bus Beach

Reviewed By Stmirli - Stuart, United States

I'm afraid to give Rum Bus Beach the fantastic rating it deserves as when word gets out, it will get crowded! For approximately $7 each US, you can rent a cabana with shade from the sun, wifi, electric outlet, hammock, beach chairs and easy access to a beautiful white sand beach with a view of Monserrat. We only wish we had more time here, as we had to be back on our ship by 3:30pm. Soldier and the staff here aim to please. Note: Rum Bus accepts CASH only. The drink prices are reasonable but the food prices are relatively high since all dishes are $60 eastern Caribbean. This is about $25 US and includes chicken, steak, hamburger and fish plates. They would do well to include some snacks on their menu. It takes about 30 minutes to travel from the cruise terminal to Rum Bus so plan accordingly.
